My Dell Inspiron 1521 just keeps locking up on me and running really super slow all of a sudden, wont even respond to ctrl alt delete . I have had to shut it down but just holding the power button several times (maybe 10 now) because it wont respond keeps telling me that my internet explorer is using all of my memory and never did before

Could be a virus - download a program called hitman pro here: http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro-3-32-bit/3000-2239_4-10895604.html and run it, that should free you of any viruses, if the problem persists try reinstalling explorer and if that doesn't solve it try using the recovery partition on boot up and try repairing.

boot the computer in safemode. check if it will still lock up. if it does then run a hardware diagnostic test. if it doesnt clear the startup by opening the system configuration utility then disabling the items under the startup tab then rebooting to normal mode. regarding the computer not going to sleep mode when closing the lid, visit the power options in control panel and check the settings on what the computer does when you close the lid.

In first place you still have the dell warranty because you have use the notebook for only 6 month, but the explanation that states indicates that your machine has a virus, I suggest to take the machine to a rapair shop. Good luck

My Inspiron 1521 is running unbelievably slow. I was able to delete 50 cookies, but that has not helped. What else can I do?

There are other things you can do to restore the its performance :
1. delete all cookies
2. delete all temporary internet files (*.tmp)
3. Move most of MS office data in your OS directory to other directory including the data in your
desktop
4. Defrag. your OS directory

Good luck,

COMP SLOW ALL THE SUDDEN!

I am no expert at vista yet but I can tell you that 2 gigs of RAM is not enough. You can disale some features in Vista, but it is a memory hog and you should probably be running about 4 gigs Ram.

How do i know what programs i can take out of this laptop? it is running so slow.

Hi,

You can see what programs run in your system by pressing ctrl+alt+del keys together. then click task manager which will have the list of all the applications running. If you find a particular application making your computer work slow, then click on that application in the list and then click end task which will close that application.

One solution for your computer running slow could be reformatting your operating system. Your system might have been affected by virus which could be the reason for your system's bad performance.

Hope it helped!

~regards,
Jegan
