Fix sunbeam 3806 toaster that won't stay down and therefore heat bread.

Just a guess since I have had the same happen to my Proctor Sillex - When you push down the lever, you are actually completing the transformer frame that then magnetically keeps the toast down until it's setting lets the toaster pop up.
In my case, a piece of toast was wedged and I could not get the handle down so that the hardware was in place to magnetically hold. Have you tried to give your toaster a good thorough shaking upside down, unplugged over the garbage can or the sink?
Good luck Eric

I can't turn my Kenmore upright freezer on.

Try disconnecting power for about 30 seconds, and then restore power. This will reboot the control and maybe restart.

yes I got the same problem, I Fix myself.(model T80BC)
unplug main power cable, remove top cover (remove 4 screw from the bottom and knob from the side)disconnect control panel cable from main board.look at the attached picture.in the photo close to power cable connector will see a slot
(look at the black arrow mark pointed ).insert plastic switch to this slot, make sure both side properly mounted.then move toaster push down lever up and down. it should move as usual without any obstruction. now put back control panel cable and top cover, knob, and all the screws. plug cable into the power,it should work.

see switch

Our toaster stopped working a little while ago, but it is outside the (presumably) one year warranty period. It's a 4 slice, soft touch black toaster, cost about £75, I think it is this model. It only...

remove from the electricity supply
remove crumb tray,
remove bottom 4 os 6 screws.
at the bottom of the toaster there is what liooks like a flat fish hook that engages with the handle when you push the handle down to start toasting. clean around this and try to get it to engage when you push the handle down, it wont stay down unless the electricity is connected but dont plug it in as you will probably kill your self!!
put it back together abd try it
if it does not work 4 slice toaster from Tesco £9.99

Toast won't stay down when handle pushed down handle comes up immediately as if not plugged in. Plug definitely in. Used only 3 times.

take it back. sounds like the magnetic coil that holds the handle down when it is plugged in is not functioning.

Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

Toaster does not stay held down to toast wct 708

there is a "contact switch" that when there is power in the system, it stays down. If hte contact switch is bad, it releases and will not stay down. COntact switch needs to be replaced, unfortuantely I have the same problem and can't seem to get the part.

KitchenAide Toaster

Kitchenaid does not recommend repair on the toasters, as it is not cost effective for the consumer or company to engage in repair.

I would recommend calling Kitchenaid Customer Service. If the unit is within the 1 Year Warranty, they may replace it at no cost. If the unit is outside of warranty, they may provide discounts on the purchase of a new toaster.

Their toll-free telephone number is 1-800-541-6390.
