Question about Canon imageRUNNER 400S Copier
Unfortunately I am not confident I can"FIXYA" but I can tell you what the code means and knowledge is power, especially if you have to call a tech. This code means the scan lamp (the light that comes on that illuminates the documents you wish to copy) is not performing as well as it should, if at all. When you turn on the copier, it goes through a series of self checks. One of those is the scan lamp. At start up, the copier turns the lamp ON and measures the brightness of the lamp. The copier will then turn the power up and down until it finds the target brightness it needs to give you good copy quality. Your copier can't adjust the power to the lamp high enough so you get this code. Remember it IS a light bulb and therefore will weaken/fail with time.Check to see if the lamp comes on by lifting the document feeder and observe if the lamp comes on when you power up the copier. If not you need a new scan lamp. If it does then I can assure you it has weakened with time and still may not be able reach the brightness necessary to hit the target. But there are things you might be able to do to temporarily help. NOTE!!!! UNPLUG THE COPIER for what I am about to suggest. Ok, at start up, the lamp comes on and shines UP and illuminates a plate that you can't see called the "standard white plate". It is the referrence the copier uses to know what "perfect white" is.When it gets dirty, thats a bad thing. Also, the 3 mirrors that reflect the light may be dirty. Also bad. Remove the large platen glass (take out 2 screws and cover on the right) and use a soft cloth to clean the mirrors by manually pulling the scanner assembly to the right. Soft cloth, damp with just a tad of window cleaner. Follow with a clean dry cloth. Now here's where you have to use you minds eye. Clean under the area that the lamp goes to when it is "home" and does its check. It shines"UP" , so its "under" what you and I see. This is the standard white plate area. Clean is good so when in doubt just clean and clean. No excess moisture, squeaky clean, dry when you are done. as many clothes as it takes.Treat it all like a window you want to see through. This process may buy you some time. But again, if the lamp is not coming on at all then ther is no point.Except the new lamp you buy will not be stressed if you clean the "optics". And I suggest you have a tech replace the lamp if it indeed needs replacement. Good luck and take care ! SPINAL
