general error normally comes if the printer carriage movement is obstructed
try doing the following
1 switch off the printer and switch on after some time and see that the head carriage moves properly or not if not than
2 look for obstruction in the carriage path
3 the cartiages installed might not be seated properly try reinstalling them
Error 5100 usually means a "General Error". In other words, the printer is not sure what is causing it to fail to print. This is usually a physical error, meaning the drivers are normal, your computer is normal, but something is failing inside the printer. Try turning the printer off and then on again. If it doesn't work, check if all the mechanical parts are moving. Sometimes, the rollers are stuck because of corrossion, or there are foreign materials that may have gotten through the printer that is preventing it from moving normally.
normally you will need to let the printer know that you have preformed any maintenance on it by clearing the error count after such an error occurs and is fixed it is normally listed under general or service options on the printer menu but you may need to look through the users manual

General error : head carriage error / chip not recognized. Head carriage can't move freely. Just turn off for about 1 hour, turn on again without ink tank. Plug ink tank.
What is the error code? Many of the codes refer to a general electrical problem, and often turning the machine off, resetting the circuit board connectors and harnesses and memory sticks, and turning the machine back on will clear the error code and allow the machine to boot up normally.
