I found an iPod on the bus and it has a lock on it that requires a password It is a 1st generation 16GB I would really appreciate it if one of you could help me and I tried to put it in sleep mode and plug...

Connect the iPod to an updated version of iTunes. Press and hold the home and power button for 10 seconds. let go of the power button and continue holding the home button for 8 seconds. iTunes will give you a message stating to restore. Restore it to factory settings and it will work jsut fine.

When i open itunes I get a warning saying the iTunes drivers for importing and burning cds are missing. I have tried reinstalling iTunes and this doesn't seem to work. any ideas?

This message can occur when you have a conflict between 2 different software's.

If you have any 3rd party software burning software installed like ....
Raxio or Nero ( excluding windows media player )

These programs use the same drivers that itunes uses

what you will need to do is identify the software and remove it completely from your computer as well as itunes

Then re-downlaod itunes

The hard part is finding that 3rd party software

To solve this Code 10 error, follow these instructions: NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.
1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4)This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry.Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the
Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives havereturned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that theyellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

ITunes registry error/CD-DVD not being recognized

This is what worked for me.....and how I got to be in this problem.

Out of the blue I guess, didn't really notice, my CD drive vanished, no longer appeared in the "My Computer" screen. The solution I found at that time was to delete the upper and lower registry filters. Yeah, that worked, CD drive back. What I was not aware of was that deleting those filters lead to the itunes registry messages that everybody is refering to, along with the inability to burn a CD in Itunes. Uninstall/reinstall was no help.

The solution:

Follow the directions in this link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US

Follow it to the letter until step 11. At step 11 (step #'s refering to the XP instructions) it states to delete the lower filter, which I had done previously so it was not present, go on to step 12.

Step 12 says to right click on UpperFilter, which I had also deleted. The trick here is to ADD IT BACK IN!! Do this by right click on the right side of the Regedit screen, select "New", select "Multi-String Value", name it "UpperFilters". Your Regedit window should now look exactly like the picture in the instructions link. Now continue with step 12, modify your new "UpperFilters" by right clicking on it. Since you just added it, there will be no value data to delete so step 14 can be ignored. Enter value data per step 15 & hit enter. Click ok, reboot and you should be good.

I just did this tonight and after rebooting my CD drive was still visible and working, Itunes did not give me any errors when loading & I was able to burn a CD with Itunes.

Good luck, I hope this helps. It was ******* me off and I suspect others as well.

Does not sync

I would go ahead and do a system restore - this is a separate method from the resetting all settings. The restore will delete all songs and hoepfully replace any key system files that may have been lost, just in case too many were loaded onto player initially.

There are also the 5 R's listed in the manual.

Does not sync

Try to do a full restore in disk mode.
1. Put your iPod into disk mode - Press top and center buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple symbol come up. As soon as you see the Apple symbol press the center and bottom (play) buttons simulataneously until you see a check mark. After this try to restore in iTunes. We recommend manually managing music versus syncing. But that is a personal choice. If you sync then going to another computer will wipe your music.
2. If 1 doesn't work try removing all USB devices from your computer and reboot. Then restore again either normally or disk mode.
3. Let us know, if you need further assistance.
