di614_128wep.gif

Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key.

Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption.

  • 64-bit encryption 10 characters
  • 128-bit encryption 26 characters
  • 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only)

  • The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key).

Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings.

Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.

How to set up WEP on Linksys Router

    Setting-Up 152-Bit WEP Wireless Security on a Linksys Dual-Band A+G Wireless Router
    Question
How do I set up 152-Bit WEP on a Linksys Dual-Band A+G Wireless Router?
    Answer
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) can be a 64-bit key with 10 hexadecimal digits, a 128-bit WEP key with 26 hexadecimal digits or a 152-bit WEP key with 32 hexadecimal digits. This encryption will prevent other users from connecting to a wireless network using your own WEP key. It will also protect your wireless transmissions/communications from being accessed or received by other users.
NOTE: Make sure to change the wireless settings of either Wireless-A or Wireless-G depending on the standard your network is using.
152-bit WEP key only applies to 5GHz 802.11a Wireless enabled network.
To setup WEP Wireless Security on your Linksys router follow the steps below.
Setting-Up the Linksys Router to use WEP
    Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
    Step 2:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click Wireless then click WirelessSecurity.
    Step 3:
Look for SecurityMode and select WEP.
    For Wireless-A Settings:
    4439-001.pngFor Wireless-G Settings:
4439-003.pngNOTE: If the screen on your router’s web-based setup page looks different, click here.
    Step 4:
Look for the Encryption drop down menu and select 152 bits.
    Step 5:
Look for Passphrase and type a wireless network password of your choice, then click Generate. In this example “MySecretKey” was used.
NOTE: You should come up with a password that is unique for your network and is a combination of numbers and letters up to 16 characters.
    Step 6:
When you click Generate, the result will be a string of random characters.
    Step 7:
Look for TXKey and select any number to determine which key you’ll be using. In this example, we selected 1.

    4439-005.pngStep 8:
Copy Key1 since 1 was selected under TX Key.
NOTE: Do not give this key to anyone. This will be your wireless network’s key.
    4439-007.png

    Step 9:
    Click 4058-005.jpg.

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
    • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
    • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
    • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
    Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
    a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
    b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
    Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
    • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
    • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
    To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.

    Finding a Wep/Wpa Key

You need to open the router's admin page by opening your Internet Explorer. On the address bar type http://192.168.0.1 it will prompt you for username and password. By default the username is admin and the password is blank (no password). You can see the WEP or WPA key on the WIRELESS tab. Goodluck!

    Setup security

To set up a network key (password to access the network), follow these steps:

Open your browser and go to 192.168.0.1
Depending on your router's model number, the username/password combination will be different. Try admin/(blank), admin/admin, or user/(blank), where (blank) is not putting in a password at all.

If you look through the tabs and option pages, you will see a section for WEP or Network Key. A 64-bit WEP key is enough, you do not need a 128-WEP or a WPA key.

Make sure you apply the settings before closing the page.

    WEP Encryption

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. 64-bit encryption 10 characters 128-bit encryption 26 characters 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only) The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters.
