How to boot in to bios from hp dv5

first off go into the BIOS so rapidly hit one of the following F2-F8-F10-F12-del.

one of these will get you into the BIOS once their navigate to a section that has either boot order or boot priority, and put the DVD first, if this isn't working take the HDD off the boot list and try again. when booting to a DVD you have a small timeout before it will skip so make sure you are paying attention

How do i reset my hp dv5 to factory default?

Probably a F10 or F11 from boot, possibly another F key, try to read the screen if you miss something reboot it and try again. Otherwise sometimes manufacturers store a Windows System Image and need to be reset via Windows Repair, probably reached by Advanced Options for Recovery.

I have a HP PAvilion dv5-1125nr and I recently encountered a problem where on startup it shows a white screen. I tried looking at it from all angles to see if there was a faint image but there was nothing....

no photos of white screen presented or posted.
is it white in a dark room???????????
DV5-1125nr (9 years old (first made date) RTC COIN cell time? sure. page 59 tells you how.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01550108

lacking any photos , it be impossible to fix this talking in text box.
no?
as they say ,seeing is believing, what you call white I call black.
white on sunny beach, or black in dark room, can be the same.
PAvilion dv5-1125nr

always post what a pC does in the dark, its best.
all text seen , all logos seen (hp or compaq)
any boot screens, any log in screens.
and if the "hit F10 key to enter HP setup" is missing on said screen as seen now for 9 years running.
if that text is missing,
remove the big battery in rear of LP,they short, so get it out now
and first., do that first. always,,,
then run on AC power,
do the HP long reset? (battery out, ac pack pulled
push power button 10 to 30second, not use the ac pack only
it can run on AC forever, end ever , no problems.
do so now.
got that that 9 year old text now? in the dark, ok?
The F10 is BIOS hot key, power on and quickly hammer F10
bingo for BIOS. see that? see those screens, those are first.
if BIOS is dead, it can not boot any OS made.
BIOS does the booting job, see?
here is your support page. at HP, Fixya is NOT HP. so....

HP Pavillion dv5-1113us laptop lcd screen backlight malfunction. My LCD screen is dark. There is no illuminated light to view browser, desktop, backgrond etc... Laptop boots up and runs but no screen...

I had same problem with HP DV6000. I ordered a new backlight on Ebay from Hong Kong cost $10 found a video on youtube on how to do it by typing in "replacing dv6000 backlight" apart from soldering a couple of wires was pretty straight forward and took less than an hour. Shop had quoted $400 to do this and fine is now working like new again. Good luck from Scott and please dont forget to vote

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9040318/FAQ_Giving_up_on_Vista_Here_s_how_to_downgrade_to_XP
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9108198/Microsoft_offers_free_Vista_to_XP_downgrade_help
Obviously, the most convenient way to downgrade is to do so without reformatting. In order to do that, you need to have a real retail CD of Windows XP. If all you have is a recovery disk that came with your computer, you’re not going to be able to do it this way. You will need to reformat.
To downgrade, use the following as a guide:
  1. Do a full backup of your current, Vista system. If something happens, you can always revert to the backup.
  2. Boot your computer off the Windows XP disc. Just pop the CD into the CD-ROM and reboot. If, for some reason, your computer boots without looking for the CD drive, you need to go into your system BIOS and change the boot order so that it checks for the CD drive during the boot process.
  3. When the computer asks to press the space bar to boot from the CD, do so.
  4. When Windows XP Setup starts up, press “R” to enter the recovery.
  5. If it asks you to choose a Windows installation, press a number and hit Enter. The likely number will be 1.
  6. If you get asked for an Administrator password, enter when asked. If you do not know it, you will need to abort and go back into Windows Vista to get your password.
  7. At the command prompt, we’re going to use the “fixboot” command. We’ll use the following commands in sequence to prep for XP:
  8. fixboot
    fixmbr
    cd \
    ren windows winvista
    exit

I got a laptop of a friend and i want to rebbot it because they never gave me the user name password or a disk..How can i reboot it to the factory setting?

Hi,
HP laptop don't come with recovery CD's they have a hidden recovery partition on them.
To access the partition turn on the computer. When the initial blue HP screen appears Press the "F10" key. A Recovery menu will appear. Click on "NEXT" and then click on "YES" Your system will now go through the product recovery.

Good luck

How did you install xp on your lappy I have a hp pavillion dv5-1104tu and i m wishing to install xp but i m not getting steps to install xp can anyone help me out for this problem

1. Insert the CD in the CD drive and boot up the laptop. Press F12 and select the CD as the temporary boot up device.
If you cannot get the CD to boot up with the CD, then you need to go to the BIOS configuration the change the boot order so that the CD is the first boot device (you can change it back to the hard drive later when you finish installing Windows)

2. Follow the screen instructions to install Windows. I suggest you get a computer friend to help you.
