Hello.
Your laser needs to be cleaned and/or adjusted. Use a DVD player cleaning kit first. If all else fails have a technician replace or adjust the laser. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Your welcome. I'm woking on one of these units right now. For about $15-30 you can have the laser replaced. That what I have to doto this one. The cleaning and adjustment normally works if the laser isn't abused. But most only last a few years. I've kept my personal one going since the release day. I have the original fat unit and bought it on release day. Have only had to clean and adjust it once!!

I have a Playstation that always says "disc ead error"

Hi,

This is probably a result because somehow the discs got scratched, or are dirty. This could of happened by moving the console with a disc in it, or maybe just touching the "silver" part of the disc. Or, this may be happening because the reading device of this console is a little dirty, or it could just be a internal error

Cant read disc

Hi,

Follow these steps when you are facing "disc wont read" problem
Step 1: Remove the disc from the system.

Step 2: Use a cloth to clean in small circles around the disc (not in a big circle going around the disc). Use DVD or CD disc cleaner if available. If you use cleaner, use a different dry cloth to clean the disc no more than three minutes after application.

Step 3: Verify that there are no disc-destroying marks on the disc. Deep scratches and chips in the middle of the disc can render a disc inoperable. As your Playstation 3 is used more and more, the lens that reads Blue-ray discs can become dirty. This will lead to discs skipping or not being read by the console. If you find this is happening on your Blue-ray discs, either movies or games, you may need to have your console cleaned. Be careful when attempting any sort of cleaning of your console, as improper handling will further damage the Playstation 3. Contact a member of Playstation Support for information on console maintenance.

Thank you !!

Will not read 05 games will read the old blue & purple discs.

Your laser probably has to be adjusted. You will need a multimeter, a small flathead screwdriver, and a little skill. First take out the laser from the Playstation. Then with the multimeter test the potentiometers on the laser using the resistance (Ohm) setting. Thye look like little circles with a small line through them. There whould be 2 of them. The idea of this is to turn the potentiometer on each one UP 10 percent. So, if it says 1.20, you want to make it say 1.32. After you do that to both of the potentiometers, reassemble the Playstation, and hope to God it worked. If not, I would check at your loacal game stores to see if they do console repairs.

When I insert a game into my Playstation 2, sometime it will say that it is reading the disc, but then after a few seconds, it says that the disc cannot be read. And other times when I insert a game, it...

After awhile some games with the purple, black, or blue reading sides and DVDs won't load. The laser in the Playstation 2 either goes bad, or gets shifted out of place. On my Playstation, the laser shifted lower than usual due to moving it. Some people prefer to fix this on their own, while some people pay a professional.

Won't play discs.

Hi Crashley41,

You Laser must be burned out. Since it doesn't play any discs, I believe you have a melted laser. In this case, your disc should not spin either. You need a new laser. Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. Then click on "Video Game consoles" in the next Screen. Pick a good Repair shop dedicated to Playstations. You can probably get a good deal on getting your Playstation working top notch again. Good Luck
