Question about Canon PIXMA MP970 InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Hi, I have a Canon Pixma MP970 multifunction printer. I will be going on a 6 month trip around Australia soon and am worried that the print head may block up from non use while i am away. (I had this problem with a previous printer of differant make). I have been advised to remove the print head and store it in a sealed bag. How do I remove the head? Thanks n anticipation.

Thanks Mike, Do I have to remove all the ink cartridges first? I found the lever but it only seems to lift the bar across the top of the cartridges.

    Hi again Mike,
I have taken out all the cartridges and removed the print head.
    Problem solved.

If this is similar to the models I've had, I believe there's a small plastic lever on the right side of the print head...try lifting it gently; the head should fairly easily lift out itself! Hope this helps--happy vacationing!

Canon mx892 error code U052

Please try the following to see if we can resolve this error:
1. Open the cover of the printer.
2. Remove all ink tanks from the printer.
3. Lift up the gray locking lever on the side of the ink tank holder.
4. Gently remove the print head from the carriage unit.
5. Place the print head back in and lock the lever down.
6. Place all of the ink tanks back in the printer.
7. Close the cover and turn the printer off.
8. Unplug the power from the printer. Leave the power unplugged for about 5-10 minutes.
Once this has been done, plug the power back in and turn the printer on. If the error persists, you will need to replace the print head

My printer only prints a 5/8" wide strip across and skips about the same horizontal width. In other words for some reason it looks like a zebra!

Error 6A00 on the Canon Pixma MP970

Hello and Welcome

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam. Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.As a Canon technology,I usually find the code almost 90% of the time it is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods etc.
I have found all those things in a purge unit. The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.A
Canon Pixma MP970 would still be under Canon warranty, get it into a shop and save yourself the hassel.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model & its always a paper path error or purge unit
I forget myself so here goes, the purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP,lexmark & other ink jet printers,is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing. That is why you 'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it. It also has a an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow

After numerous cleaning cycles the nozzles on my Pixma MP970 still show streaked patterns when printing the nozzle check. This printer has always has had poor print quality mainly black text. We got it as...

It will need a new printhead, QY6-0062-000, around $80.00. Leaving it sit and not printing just makes the problem worse, as more nozzles on the printhead get plugged. You get 90 day warranty with refurbished units and if it started out crappy you should have had a shop look at it, that model can print super photos! A new printhead will bring it back to life.

Canon MP970 how to remove print head to clear small pieces of stuck paper?

Make sure the unit is powered off before continuing.

On the right hand side of the print head holder - just to the right of the print cartridges is a lever. If you raise this lever the print head can be removed. When you have cleaned off the debris carefully replace the head and then lock the lever in position. Then run nozzle check, cleaning cycle then a head alignment process before printing again.
