The G-DRIVE does not require any drivers to work on a PC, but it does require that you format the drive so that the PC can recognize it, or use a program on the PC to recognize the Mac formatting. To format the drive for cross-platform use, make sure that you have backed up all your data from the drive as formatting will destroy any data on the drive. First, connect the drive to your Mac, and open Disk Utility. Then select your drive on the left side of the window and choose the Partition Tab. Then change the Current Partition drop-down menu to 1 partition and click on the Options button. A new window will appear where you will choose Master Boot Record (MBR), then click OK. Then choose Free Space from the Format drop-down menu, click Apply, then OK. Your drive will now appear unformatted. Then choose the Erase tab, choose FAT32 as the Format, name your drive (you will be limited to 11 characters), and click Erase, then OK. Your drive will then appear on the desktop formatted for cross-platform use, and you can copy the data you need to move to your PC and then connect the drive to your PC. If formatting is not an option, the you can buy a program such as MacDrive that will allow your PC to read and write Mac OS files.

How do I backup my files and folders in XP?

Windows XP comes with a backup tool called NTBACKUP (NTBACKUP.MSI from Windows XP CD-ROM). In Windows XP Home Edition, this tool has to be installed manually from the CD-ROM, whereas in Windows XP Professional, this tool is installed by default.
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD to start a wizard that installs NTBackup: X:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
X:\ refers to the CD-ROM drive-letter
Note: Usually, OEMs such as Compaq, DELL won't ship the Windows XP CD nor they include the NTBACKUP utility by default. You can download a copy of NTBACKUP.MSI here

Backing up your files using NTBackup Utility:
Click Start, Run and type NTBACKUP
Select Backup tab at the top
In the left pane, scroll to the file/folder which you want to backup and put a checkmark on it.
At the bottom, mention the output filename (the backup output)
Once set, click Start Backup button in the right, and again click Start Backup in resulting dialog

NTBACKUP does not have the ability to write to CDs directly. You will need to save the backup to hard drive, then transfer or burn it to a CD-ROM. Also, while backing up several files, make sure you backup the files in separate sets of each max 650MB (so that it fits on a CD-ROM)
See also FREE Windows Backup Software add-on for NTBackup
Enhanced Windows Backup uses Windows' built in backup engine called Windows Backup (ntbackup.exe) which provides state-of-the-art core backup technology. Enhanced Windows Backup substantially extends the capabilities of NTBackup, providing an effective integrated backup solution.

Windows run doesn't keep my work history

you have to physically save any work
save the history to a usb drive in case you have computer failure

Plug the flash drive into your computer's rectangular-shaped USB drive.

Wait for Windows to recognize the system.

Windows operating systems use "plug and play" technology, which means that computer peripherals like USB flash drives can be recognized instantly by the system without further need for device configuration.

Open the drive on your computer.

Open the "My Computer" directory if using Windows XP or the "Computer" directory if using

Windows 7 or Vista. Locate the flash drive letter and icon under the section named "Devices with Removable Storage." Double-click the flash drive icon to open it.

Transfer files to the flash drive.

Click the "Restore" button in the top-right corner of the "Computer" or "My Computer" directory to shrink the window so that you can view your computer's desktop background.

Open the folders or locations of the files which you want to save to the flash drive.

Click and drag with your mouse each of the files and folders you want to save to the flash drive over to the empty space in the "My Computer" or "Computer" window.

Release the mouse button to let the files "drop."

Close the windows and directory locations when finished.

Save files directly onto the flash drive. From an open file (i.e. text, spreadsheet, image files. etc.), click the "File" menu and "Save as" option.

Select the "My Computer" or "Computer" directory in the drop-down menu at the top of the "Save As" box. Double-click the flash drive letter under the "Devices with Removable Storage" section.

Click the "Save" button to save the file onto the flash drive.

Close the windows and files when finished

hope this helps

Which Operating System is running on your computer? If it's Windows XP, you need to delete a file with the name "dwmapi.dll" in the C: drive's System32 folder under Windows folder. If I am right, the problem might have started after installing Mozilla Firefox. The reason is a wrong driver of Windows Vista installed on Windows XP system.

The process is like this:
Open My Computer, then "C:" drive, and again "Windows", locate "System32" folder and again locate "dwmapi.dll" in the System32 folder and delete the "dwmapi.dll". That should definitely do the trick.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

When i turn on my zune it just continues to restart. it showed a code 5 error message. What is it and can i fix it

you receive the message when A Windows Digital Rights Management component is corrupt.
Things to try
  1. Reset the DRM system on the computer. Warning This procedure affects all media files on the computer that use Windows Media DRM technology. The effect of this procedure is not limited to media files that you obtained from the Zune Marketplace. If you follow this procedure, content licenses for all protected media files on the hard disk are deleted. Other providers, such as, Napster, MSN Music, and Wal-Mart, use different mechanisms for restoring licenses. If you have content from other providers, examine the appropriate license restoration policies before you continue. To reset the DRM system on the computer, follow these steps:
    1. Verify that the Show hidden files and folders option is turned on. To do this, follow these steps:

      Windows 7 or Windows Vista
      1. Start Windows Explorer. To do this, click Start, type userinit.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
      2. Click Organize, and then click Folder and Search Options.
      3. Click the View tab.
      4. Click Advanced Settings.
      5. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide Protected Operating System files (recommended) check box, and then click OK.
      Windows XP

      2. Click Tools, and then click Folder Options.
      3. Click the View tab.
      4. Click Advanced Settings.
      5. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide Protected Operating System files (recommended) check box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate the DRM folder on the computer. Typically, the DRM folder is located in the following location. Note In these paths, drive represents the drive on which Windows is installed.Windows 7 or Windows Vista
      • Windows 7 or Windows Vista x86-based versions
        drive:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
      • Windows 7 or Windows Vista x64-based versions
        drive:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
      Windows XP
      • drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
Note If you have upgraded from Windows 98 or from Window ME to Windows XP, the DRM folders may be located in C:\Windows\DRM.DRM folders can be located in various locations in different versions of Windows. You can also locate the DRM data path in the registry. DRM data is located in the following section of the registry:
      • x86-based versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DRM
      • x64-based versions of Windows 7 or Windows Vista: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DRM
To locate the DRM path in the registry, follow these steps:

      2. Look for the applicable folder based on the version of Windows that you are using.
    3. Rename the DRM folder to DRMbackup.
      1. Right-click the DRM folder, and then click Rename.
      2. Type DRMbackup, and then press ENTER.
      3. Close Windows Explorer.

If you receive an “Access denied” error message when you try to rename your DRM folder, start the computer in safe mode and log in as the computer administrator. To do this, follow these steps:
        1. Restart the computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start multiple operating systems, press the F8 key when the Boot menu appears.
        2. Select the safe mode option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

The Boot menu appears again and the words "Safe Mode" appears in blue at the bottom of the screen.
    4. Reset the DRM security component. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site, and then follow the steps to upgrade the DRM security component: http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506 (http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506)

Note When you access this site through Internet Explorer on a Windows Vista-based computer, you may receive a "user account control" popup message that requires that you enter the administrator password to continue. Note If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Vista x64 and the Upgrade button on the site listed earlier in this step appears dimmed, you will have to start Internet Explorer by using an account on the computer that has Administrative privileges in order to continue.
    5. Sign in to the Zune Marketplace. Then try to play a song to verify that the issue has been resolved.
    6. Restore the setting of the Hidden files and folders option. To do this, follow these steps:

I have a Compaq Presario 2715US. Started having

The problem maybe a loose electrical connection with the RAM modules and hard disk. Re-seat the RAM modules and the hard disk.
If the problem persists then the hard disk maybe faulty.
To test the hard disk, remove the hard disk and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If this computer has trouble seeing it as an external hard drive and unable to open the folders and files then the hard disk is faulty.
Then the hard disk needs to be replaced in the Compaq and Windows XP needs to installed on the new hard drive and the device drivers and programs.
