Thanks for your email. The G-DRIVE does not require any drivers to work on a PC, but it does require that you format the drive so that the PC can recognize it, or use a program on the PC to recognize the Mac formatting. To format the drive for cross-platform use, make sure that you have backed up all your data from the drive as formatting will destroy any data on the drive. First, connect the drive to your Mac, and open Disk Utility. Then select your drive on the left side of the window and choose the Partition Tab. Then change the Current Partition drop-down menu to 1 partition and click on the Options button. A new window will appear where you will choose Master Boot Record (MBR), then click OK. Then choose Free Space from the Format drop-down menu, click Apply, then OK. Your drive will now appear unformatted. Then choose the Erase tab, choose FAT32 as the Format, name your drive (you will be limited to 11 characters), and click Erase, then OK. Your drive will then appear on the desktop formatted for cross-platform use, and you can copy the data you need to move to your PC and then connect the drive to your PC. If formatting is not an option, the you can buy a program such as MacDrive that will allow your PC to read and write Mac OS files.

Installed new CD drive and computer wants to format hard drive

hey nothings wrong with both ur cd drives try doing this:
Click on the Start button.
If you're using Windows XP, also click on Run.
In the search box (Windows 7 and Windows Vista) or the Run textbox (Windows XP)
type regedit and click OK or press the ENTER key.
This will open the Registry Editor program.
Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder under Computer/My Computer and
click the '> or (+) icon next to the folder name to expand the folder.
Continue to expand folders until you reach
the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Click on the '> or (+) icon next to the Class key to expand it.
You should see a long list of subkeys open up under Class that look something like this:

On the rightside column.....delete upper filters and lower filters

restart the computer......that should fix the problem and you can use your old cd drive again......but if it doesnt......visit the nearest tech-centre

Basically, can DriveWire "see" a Mac hard drive on a PC?

So, when you plug it into your WIndows XP machine, does it show up in "My computer"? No? Try this,
Turn the computer off without the external hard drive being plugged in.
plug the external hard drive in a usb port, power up, the systems post boot up will find the drive and inform windows what hardware is installed.
When windows boots up, it will look at all the hardware and find the external hard drive, when windows finishes booting up you should be able to see the drive in my computer.

If you can't access your files, data recovery software can help.I used this one called Tenorshare Data Recovery to retrieve files off crashed HDD and it worked.
If needed, you can download it and scan your hard drive to preview whether your files can be recovered.BTW, you can get it from
Data Recovery for Mac OS X
Data Recovery for Windows OS

Make sure you are logged in as the Administrator of your computer. Power cycle (turn it off and back on) the device. If that doesn't fix the problem. Try factory resetting the unit (depress the reset button on the back of the unit for 4-5 seconds).

Check whether you have installed the SATA Hard Drive driver using a Floppy disk. Some Computers needs SATA Hard Drive Driver before installing the Windows XP. Try using Windows XP SP2 disk.

How many files are on the drive? Are they in folders? The FAT formatting normally used for these drives limits the total number of files unless the files are in folders. I think the value is ~500 items - this is due to the minimum bytes to store each file. (If the files are in folders you can stack 500 items in 500 folders.)

One thing to try is to move the files to your computer, and then return them to the flash drive. (Formatting the drive after the files are safely on your computer is an option.)

Good luck.

While installing xp showing error

Hi Friend

Try this may help you in creating a dual boot.

First find the drivers for your network components, wireless card or nic, and save them to an external device such as a floppy disk or flash drive.

Then you will need to go into the BIOS on your computer startup. Scroll to the System Configuration tab and go down to the SATA Native Support and change its setting to Disabled. Then hit F10 to Save and Exit. (You don't need to change the BIOS if you have an ATA or IDE hard drive.)

Next, insert your Windows XPmag-glass_10x10.gif CD and create the partition you wish to install XP on. After the installation is complete you should boot automatically into XP. (To do this, right click the Computer icon in start, and select manage. Then select Disk Management, and you can do whatever you want with your partition.)

Now you need to move some files. First, make sure you have set your folder options to see hidden files and to show protected operating systemmag-glass_10x10.gif files. Then open Windows Explorer and go to the drive where Vista is installed. Copy the folder Boot, and the files bootmgr, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM and ntldr and paste them to the root of your XP drive.

Then download Vista Boot Pro and save it to your desktop or somewhere else that you can easily access. Unless you already have .Net Framework (v2.0 at least) it will redirect you to a Microsoft page where you can download this necessary component.

Install and run Vista Boot Pro and open the "Bootloader" tab. Select "Reinstall the Vista bootloader" and press Apply. Then go to the Manage OS Entries tab and select "Add new operating system entry" and make sure you select "Windows Legacy". Give the new entry a name (ie: Windows XP) and select the drive letter you have XP on and then select Apply. You can also choose which entry you would like as the default the system will boot to.

And now you should be able to dual boot between Vista and a previous OS.

I hope this will help you out. Please vote for me.
