USB device on a eSATA port

A nice and mostly undiscovered feature which most of the newer Laptops and Desktops offer, is that you can connect an USB device to your eSATA port.

eSATA/USB is a type of serial port in which eSATAp (Power over eSATA), eSATA or a USB device can be plugged into the same port.

SERIAL ATA INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION acknowledges eSATAp as the actual name for the new eSATA/USB combo port. This is to differentiate and to prevent confusion with the original eSATA port.

Only one type of device can be plugged in at any one time.

Bought DX-ESATAP but does not come up on new 8 core Mac tower; reseated a couple times and tested via firewire with G-Drive and it works; esata does not... ideas? thanks...

If you are looking to add eSata ports to your Mac Pro, the Dynex card is not compatible. I recommend a simple SATA extender cable connected to a bracket. NewerTechnology offers such an option; I have used it myself, and it retails for a very affordable $20.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

I'm new to SATA technology. Need simple cable description help.

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps: Start > Run > type > regedit Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.
