My MAYTAG top loader WASHER FILLS WITH WATER ,BUT IT DOES NOT AGITATE OR SPIN.IT SMELLS AS IF RUBBER IS BURNING,ALSO DOES IT HAVE A BELT OR? PLEASE HELP .

check belt and bearings

Hi the problem will be the belt has become streched dont keep trying to use the machine as this will cause the motor to fail usually it is the back of the machine that will need to come off once this is off you will see how the belt comes off it is really easy to do and most people who can use spanners can do this with no problem.
I would say it is the back that comes off the best thing to do is take the belt off and take it to repair shop so they can order you the correct belt.
Make sure you get the correct make and model number as their are several different belts for this make of washer.

flip washer over and check the coupling between the motor and transmission of washer. if the coupling is shot it will not agitate or spin. if this model has a belt then check to see if it is broke!

you may want to inspect the bottom part and see if it still uses fan belt. it could be that the belt is loose and the motor is spinning but can not drive the transmission. so the rubber burning smell is coming from the slipping belt.

the solution is to tighten the belt or replace it if necessary.

sounds like a belt problem. if you're not smelling burning rubber (belt) either the belt has come loose or broke

lean the washer back .......
