Did you pull off the yellow sticker tab (some have a sticker covering the air hole)? Also try a cleaning cycle. Make sure the ink is seated tightly.

My printer is printing blanks, And it has ink

It sounds like you will need to have the print head replaced. Call Brother at 1-877-brother and tell them your prints are "missing the black ink on the pages", and Brother should cover the cost to repair this problem.

Brother MFC-685 will not print in black, not even on test page. But will print when i scan print

You almost certainly have a defective printhead. When you make a color copy or print, the machine makes black by mixing your color inks.
If the machine is under warranty take it to an authorized service center (listed on Brother's web site) for free repair. If it's just barely past warranty, call Brother's Customer Support and plead for mercy. They often bend their rules to help a just-past-warranty customer.
If they won't cover it, steel yourself for bad news. The parts are expensive, and the required updates and adjustments are a time-consuming pain. You'll probably be told it costs more than a new machine. Good luck.

Black cartridge doesn't print

you need to do a hard reset on the printer as well it might clear up the problem and recognize the ink at its proper levels.

refer to your user manual or let us know and we will find the procedure to do so.

i have a similar model and know how picky they can be.
