Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hi i'm attempting to repair (with no prior experience or knowledge) a zenith solid state turntable. The only names on it are "allegro sound system" model 169570 and it is an antique style cabinet. The label under the turntable says made in england, code 76060/668 and there's a 6200c/628 on another label. The cabinet also has the model number KR912AE on it. It used to work fine, but then the switch to go from on/off/auto became impossible to move and the turntable has stopped rotating. It seems difficult to turn manually i think. The only piece i've found inside the component was a small round black spindle type object. The turntable doesn't seem to be getting power ( because of issue with the on/off/auto slider, perhaps?)

I would recommend that you check the wires that are going to the spindle that you described, and see if it is getting power. If not then I would recomend that you replace the switch.

Does old Zenith Allegro Console Stereo - 8 track/AM/FM/turntable, have a belt drive phono? I can see metal gears to drive the stuck turntable .

The manufacturers of such items would usually buy in such hardware as record turntables from fairly standard catalogues.

One popular brand of turntable was the BSR but the design of other brands were similar. The metal gears aren't for driving the turntable but to drive the multichange mechanism so when one record has finished playing another will drop from the stack loaded onto the extended centre spindle.

This type of turntable is driven by a synchronous motor with a multidiameter spindle via a moveable idler wheel equipped with a soft rubber tyre. Lack of maintenance causes many problems and as the rubber tyre ages it tends to harden and lose traction on the inside of the steel turntable so when the record reaches the end and the metal gears engage there is insufficient torque and everything stops.
It is for that reason many older examples have had the multichange removed or disabled.

Removing the turntable centre motif should reveal a circlip which when removed will allow the turntable to be removed for maintenance.

Can you replace the turntable in a vintage Zenith Console sterio with a newer turntable?

Generally speaking all you need to do is find the left and right channels leads from the old deck to the amp, cut them off or if thy plug in somewhere unplug them, then you can connected the playback leads of the new deck to the amp and it will then play back.

The auto auto start stop lever on the vintage zenith allegro solid state console stereo

My only concern is that the WD40 might attack the plastic. If you can get hold of a tin of Servisol Silcone Grease. You can find it at Maplin (UK) or Radio Shack (USA).

Model number on Zenith Solid State Stereo Phonograph

The label has likely been removed or come off, most of those had it on the rear or bottom with a few inside where the phono is.

Need manual for DVD & VDR progressive scan, Allegro by Zenith

Did you try a Google search for the product name and model number? ( Example: Zenith Allegro DVD VDR progressive scan model number xxxxxxx manual.) You should be able to find the manual on-line if you have the model number (not the serial number).

Hi. Wat is error code e 001 on m53 dolcevita la cimbali coffe machine, there is also water leakin badly from somwhere on the carousel

sounds like your water pump interior seal has blown, possibly broiler leak, job like that, requires in most cases service man, that deals in espresso machine repair. They would have parts, and knowledge to tackle this. Leave this one to the pro, as could cause more damage if attempting yourself, unless have lots of experience. Machine also had complicated computer, and that is expensive, if you do not unhook proper wires prior to fixing. Check in your area for mobile espresso, repair, or restaurant supply that has in house repair, and sometimes, they will have a loaner, for you to use as they fix yours.Hope this helps, mike

Trying to find a way to get the turntable of a Zenith Allegro Console to work. We have turned to whole unit on and off. AM and FM radio plays. Turntable doesn't turn. At the bottom right of the turn...

Lift the turn table off the case and check the belt if it has one or the idler wheel that mechanically turns the table. Also check the motor to see that it rotates when you simulate a record play moving the needle carrier towards the center, The power must be on to test it. Becareful not to touch the 115 VAC line.

Zenith 25in. System 3 TV. Intermittent problem with color going all red??

It certainly sounds like a drive problem in the set. It could be a bad connection on the CRT socket, a componet on the CRT driver board, a bad drive transistor, a connection between the CRT driver board and the RGB /video jungle IC, or the RGB/video jungle IC itself. If you know how to solder and or have some sort of solid state repair experience, you should be able to find this problem by simply probing around with a wooden or plastic tool tilll the problem arises. If you have no experience, there is no easy quick fix. You should find a local repair person to assist you with this repair. good luck PS Please dont forget to rate this thread.
