Question about Fire Magic Grilling

1 Answer

I have a fire Magic A660 drop in grill (natural gas) and when I light the burner (2 of the 3 burners) the flame doesn't travel all the way around the burner. Gas is coming out of all the ports. I can light the hole burner with a lighter but not one side and have if light all the way around it.

I don't know how old your grill is, but as grills age, the gas ports in the burners begind to clog and corrode. Flame travesl around the burners like dominoes when you stand them up and knock them down, one port lights the next, etc. All burners light on just one side and there are ports that are designed to take the gas from the outside of the burner to the inside and from one side to another. Depending on how clogged the ports are, you can clear them using a straightened paper clip, or a drill with a bit. Be careful not to make the gas ports larger.

Your Question Preview Fire Magic A790i Logo Problem with A790i Firemagic a790i flames pop and knobs get hot Posted by Author imageGuest on 3/24/2013 Details not getting good pressure to all 3 b

It sounds as if the burners may not be properly seated on the valves. Instead of all of the gas flowing into the burners, some of the gas is escaping behind the front panel and creating a fire behind the front panel which would heat the valve shafts and melt the knob inserts. This call also be caused by partially blocked burner venturi and valve orifices.

Check to make sure the end of each valve is completely inside of each burner.

Low flame - doesn't heat enough

Hi, Patty. The low burner flame on a natural gas grill an be caused by several things.

1. The gas line shutoff valve is not fully open.
2. The burners are clogged and need to be removed and properly cleaned
3. The venturi valve(s), which has spider screens may be clogged.

The things listed above are the top 3 reasons for the low burner flame problem on a Natural Gas Grill.

To help you accomplish the cleaning of the burners and the venturi valves, I have included a link to your Owners Manual, that you can download & print for future reference. It has detailed instructions and diagrams in the Maintenance section, that will show you how to accomplish this.

Hope this helps you to solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks and Happy Grilling!!

As I typed previous gas is coming out of all the ports on the burners on the gril. They are not clogged. but gas does not travel around burner and get to one side. The holes have been cleaned. the BBQ is 3...

When you removed the burners to clean them, did you also check and clean the venturi valves and the burner valve(s) orifice(s). If not, this may be the problem, as the burner(s) are not getting all the gas and the proper air to gas ratio, that they need for complete combustion.

Igniter turns red but will not fire the burner. Gas is coming out and I've changed the burner with a good burner.

You need to adjust the ignitor so that the flame is closer to the burner. If you try match lighting the burner, does it light? If it does, then the igintor need to be adjusted closer to the burner.

Shortly after igniting the infrared burner, and while the burner is still heating up, the gas will explode spontaneously, blowing out the flame.

What you have is partially delayed ignition, This could be caused by a manufacturer's defect or the burner is clogged with debris. To test this theory, when you're preheating the burner, preheat on the lowest flame setting that you have, that will keep the burner lit. After 8 to 10 minutes, gradually turn the flame up to high. If the burner responds as it should, you shouldn't get that delayed ignition problem. If you do get it, the burner is defective and should be replaced.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

Firemagic ECHELON E660i - flames shoot out around the orfice heat stressing the front panel, making controll knobs too hot to touch and allowing flames to shoot up onto the lid, grill is 20 months old. ...

Has this been happening since new or did it just start?

Either way, you need to check the burners for proper placement over the burner orifices. Are they fitted snugly? Are they running perfectly parallel to each other and resting properly on the back inner cabinet of the grill, in the burner holders.. Also, make sure that the orifices are screwed in tight and are not clogged. Check the burners for clogs and if found clean out the burners, by gently tapping them on a firm surface. After doing that, turn the up so the orfiice end is down and see what falls out of the burner(s). If the burners or orifices were clogged or the orifices not tight, it may be backfiring into the control panel. This can also indicate a gas pressure problem.

If you can remove the front control panel (remove the burner knobs, first) you can access the gas fittings to each burner's control knob and it's gas fittings. Without lighting the grill, turn each burner ON and check for leaks with soapy water at all the connections. Then turn it off and check for leaks again.

If you found any leaks, check each fitting to make sure it's not cross threaded and re-tighten.

If none of the above solves the problem, contact the Fire Magic Dealer you purchased it from or the R H Peterson Company (they make the Firemagic Grills), as it may be a manufacturer's defect. They have an excellent warranty program. For a warranty claim, you will need your Proof of Purchase.

Hope this helps to get you back grillng>

I have owned the Fire Magic A660 for a year and a half. The main burners have never worked right. Sometimes they light 25% and other times up to 90% but never even. I've adjusted the air, I've cleaned...

If your using a 20lb grill tank, that may be where the problem lies. All 20lb LP refillable tanks are now equipped with an OPD Valve. It's a safety feature prevents over filling of the tank. However, it can cause problems for gas grills if not turned on properly.

If this is what you're using here's what you need to do:

  • Turn off the tank and disconnect the grill hose from it.
  • Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.
  • Very, very slowly turn the tank valve on. When I say slowly, I mean VERY slowly.
  • Once the valve is fully open, light each burner one at a time and turn them all up to the highest setting.
Are all the burners, burning properly? If so, you just solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve very, very slowly when turning it on.

If you're not using a propane grill tank and your supply is hard piped from your household supply of propane gas. You may very well have a pressure and gas volume problem, depending on the length & size of the run gas piping. This will have to be determined by your propane provider. But, I can tell you this, if the gas piping is not at least 1/2" OD, that's were your problem lies.

If you're using Natural Gas from your household supply. Was the grill properly converted to operate on Natural gas? If it wasn't, that definitely is the problem.

Hope this helps you solve your problem. "Happy Grilling."

I am interested in converting my thermador outside grill from propane to natural gass. My grill is about 8 years old. how should I go about it?

Hi an welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. I could go on and on about the how too convert it but I think you should really read this link first:

This is about the best info around.

http://www.grillparts.com/howto/conversion.htm

Having passed that information on... You have the following to consider.

1. Dual shut off valves for the grill. One near by and one at some distance in case the gas line catches fire.

2. You will need a Natural Gas regulator.

3. The burner orifices will have to be changed to NG

4. The burner itself will require an air adjustment to get the proper flame. Most burners are NOT adjustable so you may have to buy natural gas burners.

5. The gas supply line has to be installed by a certified and bonded installer.

I would visit either the location that your bought the the grill or.. a BBQ grill specialty store. I have not been in one yet that did not have someone on the payroll that could help you accomplish the conversion.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kelly

It is not difficult to do.. You just have to do everything safely.
