If you say you have hard water then yes expect to change the wick more often. As the heavy elements are left in the wick the wick becomes less able to hold water. You might try the product CLR, which I am sure you have used before if you have hard water. I have used strong vinegar to clean them too. You just need to clean the calcium and minerals out of the wick and it should be up and going again. This is assumong you don't have a special material that the CLR will eat ;)
Using Pure/distilled water would help.
