Question about Husqvarna Riding Lawn Mower 42 Inch Cut Yth2042

1 Answer

I own a YTH1542XP Lawn mower and I am trying to replace the steering bushing located near the "dash" of the mower. I have removed the steering wheel and need to remove the steering wheel shaft extension in order to remove the old part and replace it. I removed the bolt that runs through the shaft and extension approximately 6 inches down the shaft but the shaft extension will not move. How is it mounted...threaded? pressed on?

It is just pushed on, the pinch bolt has probably compressed the sides makinf very tight to remove.

Look under the seat of your tractor and note the complete Model number.
(usually begins with 917. _ _ _ _ _ _ )

Next, go to THIS PAGE and use the Model Number to find an exploded view of the steering components and how they assemble.

Hope this helps,

SOURCE: i have a Husqvarna Lawn Mower YTH1542XP. when it

It sounds like the transmission drive belt is slipping. When you pull the pedal back you are increasing the tension on the belt. You may also want to make sure the spring that pulls tension on the idler pulley is in tact. Hope this gets you in the right direction.

Right steering arm really really loose

Probably a worn bushing. Any small engine shop should be able to get or order online from any number of dealers. It is possible that steering rod/knuckle has become badly worn due to bushing damage and may ultimately need replacement as well.

Should steering column rattle?

If possible, look at the steering column, there should be some bushings or collars that help support it. One is usually towards the bottom near where it ties into a steering gear. There may be another half way up the column and at the top of the column.
Some also have a bolt and collar at the bottom to keep the column from lifting upward.

Have a 2010 sltx 1054 how do I remove steering shaft

Since have had to replace the hex bushing at bottom the shaft on an MTD. Recommend you putting back a bronze version instead the plastic version they have.

You should able to access the steering shaft lower though the underside of frame; easier if you remove the deck to give you space to work. You will need to remove the nut and gear. Then you should be pull the shaft out. If replacing the bushing pull just enough so you replace; no need to completely remove it from the mower.

Steering is loose. How to tighten it?

Joseph, Most likely it is the bronze bushing at the other end of the steering shaft. You will need to remove the mower deck to access it more easily. The steering gear could be replaced at the same time if you want, you will be right there at both the bushing and the gear, the sector shaft hopefully is ok. You can view this with a flash light before disassembly. It is on the steernig shaft that goes behind the fuel tank, down into the frame. As you or a helper turn the steernig wheel back and forth, you can see the engagment of the steering gear and the sector shaft, to determine if they need replacing too. Your dealer should have a dozen or so of those bronze bushings. Its not a bad job to do.

Husky yth1542xp. I've changed the blades, leveled

When levelling the deck, rotate the blades so that the right blade has one of its cutting edges at or near the right side center of the deck. Do the opposite with the left. Measure to the blades from the level ground, not to the deck. Try leveling that way.

I have a Cub Cadet LT1050 that's 3 years old and the steering just went out on it. The two gears that mesh are no longer 'meshing'. Cant tell if there's a bearing out or what, aparently without taking the...

-same problem, relatively easy fix. As you look at the 2 meshing gears, you will see the center gear (at the end of the steering shaft) has a nut on it. Remove that nut using an 11/16" socket wrench and pull the gear straight down (don't loose the washer). Now raise the steering column straight up from the top. From underneath, use your finger to pop the worn "bearing" (it's really a bushing) up from it's holder. You will need to fish it out from the upper side. Replace this "bearing"--Cub Cadet # 941-0656A [replaces 741-0656A]
Bearing, Hex Flange, 5/8. Reassemble in reverse order. Hope this helps.
