Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others

1 Answer

Hello, I am renting a home in NJ, and would like to open our pool. I am not very savvy when it comes to inground pools... i tried to figure out how to turn my Hayward S244T Hi Rate Sand Filter on, and get it going. While i did manage to get water pumping into the pool, it was not filtering out. Can you please explain to me what i am suppose to do, and how to do it. I have an owners manual, but i find it very hard to follow, and everything is already installed, i am just having problems filtering it out. Thanks! Christine Mincer

Hello c anna.... Opening up the pool is a pretty big job with lots of steps. That said, here is an excellent link which has all of the steps broken down

Can a person use a hayward de ec40 for either above ground pools or inground pools? if not why?

Yes as long as you are sure to match the flow rate of the pump to the filter. The biggest limit will be the low maximum flow rate the EC40 has. It will clog up to fast if installed on a larger pool...inground pools are generally larger (more gallons of water) than above ground. The pumps are more important to match as far as using inground rated units for inground pools and above ground for inground. Filters only care about flow rate and overall volume of water to keep clean.

Not self priming itself. when it turns off the water pushes back out of the skimmer and pushes the basket up. it loses water and the pump cant re-prime itself.

PRIME PUMP, OPEN AIR VALVE ON FILTER. OR TAKE THE LID OFF YOUR FILTER AND SEE IF IT STARTS TO PUMP... YOU DO HAVE IT PLUMBED RIGHT? THE PIPE COMING OUT OF THE PUMP GOES TO THE FILTER !! I'M YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY IN LONGWOOD FLORIDA. WHERE THE POOL IS ALWAYS OPEN

I need to drain my inground pool with a heyward pump the water level is down just past the skimmer, do I need to close a valve so the pool will continue to drain from the main drain in the deep end? or...

You can try this but you run the chance of loosing the prime and burning up the pump. if the water is below the skimmer your already further than you should be.
What you need to do is get a submercibal pump. You can usually rent one at one of the big home centers, (Home Depot, Lowes...) or a rental yard. This will cost twenty or thirty dollars and that is a lot cheaper than a new pump. Also if your planing on cleaning the pool it will pick it's own prime so you can wash and rinse the pool.

Pool pump problem

Possibly you picked up something that wrapped itself around the impeller of the pump. Pull out the pre-strainer basket located just before the pump and get a mirror and look inside the intake opening for the pump to see if there is any obstruction. The pump body may have to be taken apart to remove what's there. If nothing can be found, the next thing would be bad bearings. That would require a new pump, unless you think you have the savvy to replace them.

2 yr old inground pool Hayward pump louder than normal. Bearings were checked and seals replaced prior to opening this summer.

If there is air in the pump it cavitates and can make it run louder, otherwise it is the bearings in the motor.

Inground pool question. How far away can I position my skimmer.

you don't say the volume of the pool, but if the 1.5 was working before and you are not adding too many turns, it will work.
