This looks like either you do not have correct drivers, or that the drivers didn't install or didn't install properly Double check that you have the proper drivers. If you do, try reinstalling them.
Have you tried re-installing the drivers?Try removing the software you originall installed on the computer, and re-installing them again.Check as well installed printers delete all the additional hps that may be there as well.
Good luck
You have not installed the scan drivers. Go to your control panel, double click on add hardware, and run through the wizzard cycle. It should tell you exactly what you require, if it is not there, else it will just install it and you will be OK.
When you print a test page, do all 3 colors show up? If they don't your cartridge is out of one color, or the print head for that color is cloged. When you install the printer on Vista, if you are using a USB cable, bring Vista all the way up and then plug in the USB cable. Vista should then tell you it found a new device. If it does, the Vista probley has a driver built into Vista. If it askes you if you want to use the existing drivers, say no and chose the drivers from the Vista printers.
You need to download the drivers from HP website for VISTA.
If you wish to work printer in networking then you can also add printer in the Laptop by that method.
Let me know more how you need to go for ( since if your XP is a desktop, then I would recommend you to keep the printer connect with it directly and just use a LAN cable for your Laptop.)

Printer Setup
In this case, there's no mystery as to the cause of the problem. You will be unable to use this printer with your operating system because there are no existing print drivers that work with 64 bit Vista. Your printer will work with Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, but not with Vista at all.
You have only two options...use a different HP printer that will work with Vista, or get a PC that has one of the supported operating systems on it and connect your current printer to that PC.
Sorry. I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, but that's the best I can do until the proper drivers become available.
1) Unistall drivers supplied with printer
2) Download new Vista drivers
3) Disconnect printer
4) Restart computer
5) Install new drivers (connect printer when it asks)
6) Restart computer
