Hello,
The first things I would check is the dust accumulated around the fan and the heat sink.

It could be a fan problem or sometime the dust is clogging the air circulation.

Please power off your laptop and try to spray some dry air in the vent input (Probably on the bottom of your laptop) and output.

Let me know if you see any improvement.

regards

It sounds like your system might be running hot. Do you hear the fan running? If so it will turn on after it has cooled off, but once it gets hot it will turn off. If you immediately try to turn it back on, it won't work until the system has cooled off.

Laptops overheat because of the following problems:
1. Dust has clogged the Fans, Vents, CPU & Heat Sink Area
2. The FAN has stopped working
3. The Thermal Paste around the CPU and HeatSink has either dried up or is too thin to keep the system cool.

Try a can of compressed air and blow out the areas you can get to around the vents. You'll have to take the laptop apart to get to the Fan, CPU and Heatsink

Gateway m series..gets very hot and shuts down with system error

The fan that is on top of the CPU has a air vent and when that gets clogged with dust, that could cause the laptop to get hot. If you could get into the laptop then you could clear out any debris there in the vent. It could also be a bad fan or if you hear the fan spinning then the motherboard might be going bad because its not regulating the voltage.

Runs very hot at times cannot leave hand on lay below keyboard area, fan is not on. When it does this I start cooling mamually by pushing fan around with paper clip thru air intake grid until it starts...

Hi rdn52...
Sounds like your cooling fan is faulty...
The computer should not get very hot like you describe...the fan should keep it cool...
Replace your cooling fan...

My acer aspire 5315 shuts off suddenly and won't restart till it wants to. I replaced the battery, no difference....what's wrong?

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced

Hi, gateway w323-ul1 laptop cooling fan is not working.

Try blowing out junk in the fan by shooting air in the out vent. You can also try making up a very small hook with a paper clip and trying to see if you can pull out any junk.

If the Laptop is still under warranty call tech support. If not, you should still check the FAQ and knowledge base at the Gateway website.

Laptop fans don't run continuously. They normally run during boot and when the laptop gets too hot.
