Have you configured A-1 or V-2 (which ever you are using) to receive optical (the default is analog stereo).
From the manual:
1) switch to A-1 (e.g.).
2) press SYS then SETUP.
3) press < or > until you see 'INPUT' is the display.
4) Use the ^ or v buttons to select input to use (INPUT OPTICAL).
5) Press ENTER to complete the setting.
I would like to do exactly this on my DV55 but I do not have an original remote. My replacement cannot do step 2.

You don't mention using the manual (which I can't find). Nor what the equipment is at the other end of the optical cable. Or is it XDV830 as in the title? Either way, it takes two to tango.

Have you assigned the optical input?

Is there good light coming through the cable and is it routed in lazy wide curves throughout its route?

I have a pioneer XV-DV55 and the center speaker and Left and Right rear speaker are not working. What should i do?

Did you check your speaker selection switch to make sure that those units are getting power? If that is not it I am afraid that you may have a problem with the dts audio chip responsible for the decoding of the different channels ..I had this happen with my Pioneer 9700 receiver.
If you have an amplifier module that powers certain channels see if there is an amp module that powers those three areas. If so, it could be THAT amp module that is defective since lots of newer receivers do not have discrete amps for each channel and resort to modules to supply power to two or three channels at a time ala Panasonic receivers.

No sound from front center and rear speakers on my xv-dv55

Hi
1st check your cables are inserted into the subwofer (which is the powersource)
however it sounds as though you have switched the player to mono mode to reset it try this
2. On your remote press the system button with the green ring around it 3. Then press the dts button (number 7) keep pressing it until the auto option appears (watch the little black display screen)
hope fully that should fix it
I am assuming that you no longer have the manual other wise you would have checked in there? But if you do and this does not work try read the first few pages on setting up the sound for your system.

How it get sound through the optical cable through a pioneer tv?

Hi
You normally need to tell the system that it is receiving an optical signal, on mine, which is a different model you have to select the relevant button that corresponds with the area in which you plugged the optical cable (ie video 1, video 2, audio 1, audio 2) and then press the system button followed by the set-up button. You should then be able to scroll across the options with the arrow keys, watching the display until you see input analog, then use the up and down arrows until you see optical. Bingo you should have sound!

How to multi region my Pioneer XV-DV55

Most have "hack codes" but yours is in a select group of a few that simply cant be done with a couple pushes of a button.

As far as I am aware the only way to get thesemachines to play Region 1 discs is to have them chipped. A variety of solutionsare available, and it needn't be expensive (typically £30 to £70) but youshould be aware that any internal modifications to your players wouldinvalidate the warranty. Have a look at the following web sites for moreinformation:http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-000-dvd.html
http://www.maxking.co.uk/dvdmod.htm
http://www.dvdchips.co.uk/

I know you were looking for a free solution you could do in a matter of seconds and sorry it didnt work out that way. Regardless, I hope I pointed you in the right direction and feel free to ask if you have any more question.

Happy Holidays,
TJ
