Right no need to worry if your laptop is overheating. Just open fan panel which is at the bottom rtop right on the casing. The SZ series clogs dust inside the fan wings and the heat sink and hence the BLUE screen error comes. You can take the heat sink out ( L SHAPED) and put it back on after cleaning it with a compound which is a cream type of substane used for heatsinks. You can buy it from any hard ware store. let it dry and your ready to go :)

My VCG-RA810G Vaio sony computer powers up, but the monitor reads no connection. I've switch the monitor cord and the power supply is new. Is it a video card and if I need a new one, do I have to...

Possibly the video card is faulty, if you can hear beeping sounds from the pc itself, there is a probability the RAM sticks, or the memory modules are just loose, reseat them in place also check for the heat sink of the processor, for it could be overheating. lastly as you have said, the video card could be just loose re-seat the card, if that does not do the trick, a simple test using other video card to prove that the card is faulty, that also imply on RAM sticks.
It is your choice if you were to buy from SONY, but there are replacement for a cheaper alternative.
Hope this helps.
