Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

When just driving over minor bumps or potholes it makes this rattling noise like metal to metal or like something is going to fall out in the front end of my car. It at times to me sounds like more at the right then left, but its very annoying. Please advise.

Strut mount prolly gone bad. ths strut mount is at the top of the wheel well, in the engine compartment. the top of it has a little dome, usually.

have someone fender by the wheel well and lift up on it put your hand on the strut mount and see if you can feel the knock.

Grinding/screeching noise when going over speed bumps

Basic check. Open hoop, turn on the car to normal tempature.
-Ask a person to help you drive but do not drive. "Apply emergency brake and Just shift to Drive and Reverse. So watch the engine .
It twists badly or not? If just little. the engine mount is okay .
If it twist a lot.>>> Replace the engine mount. (Check for transmission mount too)

Good luck.

What is making a rattle noise in the front?

Check all the bushings and make sure they are not loose. General Motors bushings are prone to cracking.

My 2003 Ford focus is making a rattling sound by the driver side in the engine when I go over a bump or pot hole what could this be?

There are a number of things which can do that. If someone did not properly fasten the aircleaner down it will rattle. You can get a rattle out of the shielding for your Catalytic converters and sometimes gravel will get caught in the shielding and rattle with every bounce.

There is a good possibility the rattle is your front brake pads which is why they make a compound to glue the pad to the caliper. To check this, just lightly hit the brakes enough to make the calipers work and if the noise is reduced or stops, then that is your problem. Do this when going over the bumps and potholes.

Another possibility is the joint from the exhaust header to the Catalytic pipe. There is a round metallic gasket usually called a "donut" which can work loose with engine vibration. This will sometimes chirp when you go to Reverse and back to a forward gear.

I hope one of these will solve your problem.

RATTLING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE

The first thing to check on a rattling noise is if going over minor bumps in the road if that is when it makes noise is a sway bar link, they make a rattling noise. If you raise that wheel up you might also want to try and wobble the wheel to be sure it is not a tie rod end or ball joint. Typically I run into the sway bar links or the sway bar bushings making the noise. However ive even seen it be a rock sitting on the strut plate.
