Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. I believe that you're trying to connect the second computer wirelessly. If you need the Network key we need to access the Wireless Settings Page of your router. If it is possible for you to provide the Make and the Model of the router so that i can provide you the steps on how to access the router page and to obtain the network key needed for you to be able to connect the second computer.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

    Hi,

You can also access the router by using this steps.

    1. You need to know the ipaddress of your router. You can refer to the manual or check the Default Gateway of your computer (Make sure that you connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable for you to get the Default Gateway). Click on START then RUN. Type CMD on the small box on the lower left of the screen. Type IPCONFIG on the black window and get the value of your DEFAULT GATEWAY (it starts with 192.168.x.x)

    2. Open a Browser, Type the DEFAULT GATEWAY on the address bar of your Browser. It will ask you for a username and password. (Refer to the manual of your router or post a reply so that i can provide you the username and password of your router)

    3. Go to the Wireless Settings Page of your router. Look for the SSID or the Network Name and the Network Key or Passphrase. You can personalize it so that you can easily remember the details.

    4. Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the Network Key to make it secure.

You can also provide the Make and Model of the router so that i can provide you with the username and password to access the router settings page if you dont have the manual.

    Thanks

Where do I find the network security key for my router

If it has a SSID and Security Key that has been setup, the person that set it up would have the Security Key. You didn't supply the Make or Model or device? Try to connect with a Ethernet Cable to verify the device is working properly. If it is connected to the computer with limited access it may be a computer issue? Reboot the Router and the computer, unplug the router, for 30 seconds or so, plug in, wait for self test, reboot computer, select the wireless from the list of Available Wireless Networks and connect. Post results.

I dont know the code forgot the code for other computers to get conecct like a ipone for the computer

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you forgot the code or the Network Key (Passphrase) we can access the Wireless Settings Page of the router to obtain the information needed to connect your iphone.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net. The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Network Key is case sensitive.

Don't forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya

I bought a wireless adapter at a garage sale and I do not know the WEP code

The WEP key is set in the wireless router you're trying to connect to, and that's the one you need to know. When you put the adapter in your computer and try to connect, you'll need to provide the code. There's nothing built into the wireless adapter already.

If you're trying to connect to a network and you don't know the key, you'll need to get it from someone who does. Or, if this is your own wireless router and was set up but now you've forgotten the key, you can reset it. There will be a recessed RESET button on the router's back panel. Press and hold it for 10 seconds and release it. The router will restart and all its settings will back to factory defaults. Then you can enter the wireless setup page and create a new WEP key.

Need to reset password. Have installed as directed on second computer but unable to activate without pasword. Do not remember pas word.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router .
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key.
Use that password to connect to the wireless network

Forgot the Network Key

Ok, if her main computer is connected wireless, and still works, you may not have to reset the router at all.

Go here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_key.html

download it, and run it on her main computer. It basically finds the key that windows has already saved, and allows you to view it.

Let me know if you have any other issue. :)

Second computer cant connet through the router..

You must reconfigure the wireless settings on the wireless computer. Go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks. Now you must delete all the prefered wireless network profile there. If they are all deleted, click on ADD > Click Add A Network in range of this computer > Select the signal from your router and connect. If it asks you for a network key, you should know that, otherwise, contact your router provider to determine what your network key is. That should solve it.

Need network key for wireless network connection

This is your password on the router. Do you know it? Are other computers on this router? If not you can hold the reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds and it will reset to factory default. No network key needed, then log in to your router and set a new network key.

Wireless connection

Make sure the wireless network key is configured on your wireless settings on your computer. If you don't know the network key, you can simply reset the router. Just push the reset button at the back of the computer for 10 seconds then unplug the power for 20 seconds then plug it back in.

Second computer cannot connect to internet

Did your wireless network card install properly on the reformatted laptop? Can you see the network ID (SSID) in the list of available networks on the laptop? Perhaps you set up an encryption key that is saved into the old system that needs to be entered on the new.
