SOURCE: Technics 1210 Mk 2 Pitch Fade Problems

You have to understand any sort of calibration meter will only tell you if the pitch control is faulty - or excessively too fast/too slow. If your units are just 'off' then that is a matter of a simple calibration of your pitch controls back to original factory specs. Also, just so you know, the pitch controls on the 1200s are not really calibrated when they leave the factory. They are basically installed, set a default setting, then shipped off. So, you'll often times have 2 turntables with sequential serial numbers, but they are both off.

Here is a tutorial on calibrating your unit back to original factory settings: TECHNICS SL1200MK2 / SL1210MK2 TURNTABLE PITCH CALIBRATION

You can also print this out and give it to the technician who serviced your units. Also ask him what kind of calibration meter, or unit did he use to test? Just curios.

SOURCE: technics 1200sl pitch control

There seems to be 2 issues with this unit. Usually when the platter speeds up very quickly, one of the IC (integrated circuits) are faulty and needs to be replaced. However, I've never seen the 33/45 lights come on in addition. So, perhaps the issue started with faulty 33/45 switches, and it then caused a short to one of the IC's.

This will have to be professionally serviced, as it is not an easy fix. There are various circuits on the main board which control the drive, so it's a matter of diagnosing which is the culprit. The 33/45 switches will also need to be tested/replaced.

SOURCE: SL-1200 MK2 Tone Arm Oxidized and Height Adjust

EXCUSE ME! PLEASE FORGIVE YOURS TRULY!!. I mis stated something. Vinegar NOT mineral oil to clean the oxidation. You are correct in the type lubrication. A dry-teflon is best in this application. A minor adjustment in the balance of the arm may be needed. Any chemical used on electronic ckts other than the one that replaced the freon type could be harmfull but any lube used directly on the mechnanics is welcome. You may choose a syringe to apply the small amount in exactly the point of need. This is a well known procedure in the medical field on laboratory equipt.

SOURCE: Speed is inconsistent

if it does not brag about being "direct drive" on the front of the unit, then it is probably belt driven

will help you remove the platter to check the belt. if it is slipping it is the most likely cause.

There is power going through my technics 1210,but the platter & strobe light still will not work

how do you know theres power to the unit if theirs no strobe light pitch adjuster light & the platter doesn't spin?
the power comes in & to the transformer first, then through the strobe switch, the transformer is what blows when you short the target light out.....i've seen this many a time when people try & change the target lights to blue neon.

I have just bought a pre-owned Technics SL BD-22 turntable and the speed is variable - when I adjust the pitch adjustment wheel it seems to get worse. On listening to familiar music it seems to be running...

Have a look at the bottom of the turntable. This type of turntable often have speed adjusters. They might be covered by a sticky label or something. If you can't see that go inside by removing the bottom and look inside for them. There should be two, one for each speed.

How to calibrate control on a technic 1200 by sight

Put the pitch slider to +6 and adjust the internal preset until the top set of dots on the platter are stationary.
Check again with the pitch at +3.3 if the dots are stationary then job done!, if not then the pitch slider is worn and perfect calibration won't be possible until the pitch slider is replaced.

Stiff Pitch Adjustment

What did you open up? The top of what? If you could be specific, I can direct you.

If your pitch is stiff, try spraying some contact cleaner or similar - DO NOT USE WD40. Use an electrical contact cleaning solution, such as CAIG DEOXIT or CAIG FADERLUBE both work very well, and are good for electronic contacts.

If this does not work, then maybe the pitch control knob/shaft is slightly bent? Any physical damage?

Other than that, there isn't a whole lot you can do, unless you replace the pitch control - Technics Pitch Control.

Panasonic automatic turntable model sl-hm42

I'm having a similar issue - except my panasonic sl-hm42 platter is moving too slow on 33 1/3 settings (don't have any 45's to try). It's a DC model, so I would think there would be some kind of pitch control settings or screws somewhere on it but I can't seem to find them.
Does anyone know if it's possible to adjust the pitch on this model turntable? Thank you!

Broken pitch control

Yep, time to replace the pitch control. You can attempt to do this yourself, however good soldering skills are required (not the time to learn). You will have to desolder the old pitch control, and solder on the new one. Which is why I say, now is not the time to practice soldering on your turntable. You could actually cause more damage.

If after replacing the pitch control, you still have the same issue, then there is something wrong with the drive on the unit. The drive is controlled by various integrated circuits (IC's), and they are known to short out every now and then. The problem is isolating the correct IC. FYI, Technics is starting to discontinue parts, and 1 of the main IC's on this unit is no longer available (IC302 - Nand Gate).

You can order the PITCH CONTROL HERE.
