Question about LaCie Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My Lacie is actually empty, when I open it there's nothing there, but when I try to drag any folders into it it says that it's full. And also in "Get info" box it says its 0kb free space, how do I repair this problem? It's been used for half a year and it worked fine just until I've started to clean up some files from it. I've use it for different iMac's so please help!

My first idea - the file delete routine(s) may have done a sloppy job, or the drive may have been removed from an iMac before the file system had written all updates to the drive, leaving
the file system in an undefined/error state.
(1) perform a low-level diagnostic on the drive to make sure it hasn't failed mechanically.
(2) reformat the drive to open it back up to storing new folders (restore sanity to the file system on
the drive).

Go into Disc Utility and use the partition option, change CURRENT, to 1. Also check the options box towards the bottom, they have 3 options depending on how you plan to use the drive. Let me know what happens.

Tip

Copy & Paste - Drag & Drop of Files and Folders

Do you find it difficult to drag and drop? Copy files from one folder to another OR move a file from one folder to another? Try this:
  • Open the Windows Explorer. How? Hold down the [WIN] key together with E key. Make this window size in between MAXIMUM and MINIMUM.
  • Open one more window and size it medium as before.
  • Adjust the positions so that you can see both windows side by side
  • Select a drive and folder from one window.
  • Slowly drag it and drop it to an empty space in the other window.
  • If you hold down the [CTRL] key while dragging, you will get a duplicate in the second folder.
  • OR highlight a file from one window , right click, then click on COPY; Now click into the next window, right click on an empty space and click on PASTE

How do i download pics from comp to disk

Hi,
  1. Insert a writeable CD or DVD into your computer's CD or DVD recorder.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to data disc.
  3. In the Burn a Disc dialog box, type a name for this disc, and then click Next.
It might take several minutes for the disc to be formatted in the default Live File System format. When the formatting is complete, an empty disc folder opens.
  4. Open the folder that contains the files you want to burn, and then drag the files into the empty disc folder.

cdb4d559-8825-47a1-8175-79020965d91c.pngYou can copy files to the disc folder by dragging them to the disc icon or to an open disc folder As you drag files into the disc folder, they are copied automatically to the disc.

How do i combine my C drive with my Wd my cpu is full and my wd is empty I wanted to know if its possible to combine them so i dont have to keep moving everything after it installs

It is easier, and safer to just move all your documents, videos and music to the WD HDD.just drag and drop from 1 to the other.
click on my computer and open the WD Hdd. create a folder named "My Documents"
click on my computer again, leaving the 1st window open and select drive "c" or "my documents" on drive "c" anad literally drag and drop the folders accross by left clicking on the folder and dragging to the wd hdd and relasing the button.

Backup folder shows as empty

Have you tried showing hidden and system files?
In the Windows Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Options or Folder Options.
In the View tab, scroll in the list and make sure show hidden files is selected. You can also unselect the 'hide system files' option.

That will show you anything on the disk!

Sync software/empty folder/ slow backup/

hello frustrated one,

the back up feature is application dependent, not hardware dependent, misfortunately. Gotta love sales guys.

my understanding is that these will back up data files, not application files.

backup speed is dependent on how it's connected. in ascending order.

USB 2.0
Firewire
Ethernet

simple situation..just need to know what your connecting with.

Also, you may want to consider an online backup utility, as well. I use one from here

Creating space on external hard drive

When you move files to the Trash on a Mac you are just marking the files to be deleted next time you empty the trash. You are not actually deleting them when you move them to the trash. They will continue to take up space on your drive until you empty the trash.

Emptying the trash will delete everything in the Trash folder regardless of which drive it is stored on. If you have files you are not certain you want to delete that are located on your internal drive, open the Trash folder and move them temporarily out (like to the desk top), then empty the trash to delete all the ones on the external drive that you do want to clear off.

You will see that the free space has increased on the external drive. Now put back in the trash the files from your internatl drive you were thinking of deleting but not certain you wnated to (if that is your reason for not wanting to empty the trash. I'm not clear on why you would not want to delete them.)

Information used- capacity used and available

Re: deleting the files, did you drag the files into the trash bin and then empty it? The files don't actually leave your drive until you 'Empty Trash' on your mac's doc. Hope this helps, not sure about your startup disc problem.

Disc full

try viewing directly with Windows: Open "My Computer" and look for your drive letter for the Jensen. Open it and you will see all of the folders and files on that MP3 player. Try mouse dragging songs into the correct folder of the drive letter.
