Started 455 rancher after setting for about a month. always used stabil in fuel. started with choke on and then turned off choke once saw was running. the saw seemed to be stuck in high idle and would take a long time for the idle to come down after throttle was pushed, but never came down as far as it should have

This sounds like the throttle spindle sticking, or the cable sticking, if you remove the top cover and air filter, then push the throttle spindlefully back to the stop screw with your finger, then try again, the spindle may be a little gummed up.

What is the gas / oil ratio mixture for husqvarna 455 rancher model ?

50:1 that's 2.6 ounces of 2-stroke oil (preferably with fuel stabilizer) to one gallon of gas. I recommend using 89 octane gasoline for all small engines. It has little or no ethanol in it, as opposed to the 10% typical in 87 or 86 octane fuel. This will prevent a lot of fuel issues, especially if you are not using the tool daily or at least weekly.

My 455 revs up and down while giving it thortle

Check the fuel tank vent, ive had 455 and a 450 rancher in for repair that have had the same symptoms. Sometimes it can be the breather pipe that has come off the carb, ive had that happen on a 395xp.

The vents are simple to change and it sorted out the problem on both saws. 1 was simple to spot as it leaked fuel when laying on its side.

Runs first 30+ sec then bogs out/dies when throttle pressed

If still under warranty have it serviced (authorized dealer not Joe's lawn mower). There should not be a fee (paid by Husqvarna). There have been carburetor problems. If you adjust it your warranty will likely be void; Joe's small engine service just as likely to void any warranty. Are you using a fresh 40:1 fuel oil mix. The will not start with choke set is normal. Start procedure in your OM says listen for sputter and disengage choke. Almost all new saws have similar start procedure.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4).
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode.

These flood easily and are very difficult to start once that has occurred.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls)
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle - Don’t pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull)
Hope this helps

Want start

Read the warm start procedure from the operators manual.
1. Pull choke (sets fast idle)
2. Push in choke (fast idle retained)
3. Make sure ignition is on, pull (usually once on my saw)
4. Advance throttle slightly to release fast idle.
I made the mistake ONCE of not setting the fast idle. My shoulder gets sore thinking about it. HTH
