Several things can cause this problem.

1. The air intake filter is dirty or clogged and needs to be removed & cleaned.
2. Obstructed air space. The unit requires 12' to 18" of clear air space around the entire unit.
3. The compressor may be low on refrigerant gas and needs to be recharged. Leave this to the pros
to do,
4.If it's in a basement, it may be overheating because the temperature at floor level is colder than
at shoulder level. Dehumidifiers struggle at temperatures below 65 degrees, unless you have a
Low Temp model, designed for basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor on to a
sturdy table or counter top that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water, will
generally solve the problem.

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a Danby which has the feature for heat on the left-hand side. I just bought it a month ago, but can't lay my hands on the instruction book right now. Can you tell me the proper procedure for...

Lori, the Danby Humidifier, Model # DDR2504 does not have a heating function. It's just a 25 pint dehumidifier. In fact, there are no Danby Dehumidifiers that have a heating function.

By, chance do you have Multifunction Air Conditioning unit, rather than a dehumidifier? If so, please provide the correct model number.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Dean, are you looking for someone to concur with your excellent evaluation of the problem? If so, I wholeheartedly concur. However, it may just be the automatic fan switch that is a vault and is replaceable. Fortunately, you have a house brand for Sears. And for the most part (depending on the age of the unit & which company really manufactured it for Sears) parts may still be available at
www.searspartscentral.com Armed with the model number you can search the site for that model unit and find an exploded view of all the parts. From there, you can price and order them, if you like.

In the meantime, consider the age of the unit, the cost of the part(s) and your time to research and then repair it, against buying a new one. If you do decide to scrap it, do it responsibly. As there is still Freon in the compressor.

I hope I was able to help you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

You really answered your own question. The pump in the dehumidifier only has so much water lift capacity. By trying to run it up and out, you have exceeded the maximum lift capacity. Using a floor drain or even a bathtub drain in the basement will probably work, as long as the hose is not to long.*
However, if you can use a floor drain, there's no need to use the pump function. You can use the continuous drain on the back of the unit. using the drain hose provided for that application.

*The 13 ft lift capacity noted in the Owner's Manual includes whatever length of hose you're using to get to the window. As there is some friction loss involved. But, they fail to point that out.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
