You can have a tech replace the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU with a higher quality thermal compound, that should drop your temps by ~5c.

also laptop cooling pads are available at Bestbuy/Target for ~$20 that could also help.
example: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Cooler+Master+-+NotePal+U2+Laptop+Cooling+Stand/2193375.p;jsessionid=6372C4ACBEF9F83CF3432D8C555CFBBF.bbolsp-app03-12?id=1218313330170&skuId=2193375&st=cooling%20pad&cp=1&lp=2

Keep your laptop air vents open. Do not use it on a bed, pillow, or blanket because cloth blocks the air vents almost always and insulates heat.

Laptop Fan noise:

This seems to be a common problem with laptops over a couple of years old. Dust gets trapped in the copper fins and the fan of the CPU heatsink and reduces the efficiency of the cooling, which results in regular power off's by the laptop as it gets over it's upper temperature setting. The fix is relatively easy, just remove the heatsink unit, blow it clean with compressed air, clean the old CPU heatsink paste off with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and spray a thin film of heatsink paste on the CPU.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

The fan needs to be cleaned. The heat sink does not fail. If the fan is not rotating correctly after cleaning, then you need to replace the fan. Thanks, Joe

Really need more information, but my guess is dirty fan. If fan is blocked by dust, it may make noise and may run at high speed all the time because the CPU is overheating. If CPU gets hot enough, the laptop will shut itself down without warning. If dust is the problem, get some canned air. Before blowing into the air vents, try to spot where the CPU fan is and gently insert a toothpick to block the fan and prevent it from turning. A long blast of compressed air can spin the fan too fast and burn out its delicate bearings. Blow air from underneath and also from the side vent until air blows clear. In some bad cases of dust, the bottom or top cover must be removed to get it all out.

My laptop has a black screen and i cannot give it any command and have to force shut it down

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

My sony laptop suddenly shut down itself when am playing a game. it shuts with a certain sound

Laptops are very often overheating, so it wouldn't be a surprise if you playing the game makes it even hotter and it just shuts down to protect itself from damage.
You can try using a cooling pad/fan or just make sure the laptop fans can circulate air freely.

Whenever playing games or longer videos or movies, the computer shuts down without warning. Is this caused by the graphics card, psu, overheat, or something else?

Gaming consumes more CPU/ Processor resources and due to the heavy processing the PC heats up. Excessive heatup beyond usual is alarming and PC shuts down by itself when the processor/ CPU temperature exceeds the safe temperature limit. There are mainly two reasons for heatup.
Heating issue generally occurs due to fan failure, which may damage the system, if not checked properly. Another most likely cause of overheating is the dust present inside the PC, which clogs the fan and heatsink.
1. Make sure the fan is running. (if not, it needs replacement)
2. Clean the fan and heat sink (thermal module).
Take out the fan and heat sink. clean them with the help of tooth brush and put it back.
3. Also, make sure that the PC is placed in a well ventilated environment and the air flow the the PC is correct.
The procedure is very simple and I believe immediate action is required to prevent any damage to your machine and data.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

My acer aspire 5738g shutdown while i plaay agame

You either overloaded the processor or the available RAM. Also with these laptops and high end games...it is very easy to overheat them unless they are on a cooling pad with another external fan blowing cool air over them, without it they will shut down due to thermal overload....this is to keep them from melting something. Try checking with the support driver page for your laptop and see if there is a BIOS update that addresses the algorithym for fan speed, then pull the heat sink from the processor, clean everything up and apply a good thermal paste compound, then blow out all the airvents and make sure there are no restrictions.

Unwanted Shut-off

First Charge up you battery while the computer is off. Once fully charged unplug the adapter and play the game...see if it shuts down. If not replace that ac adapter. If it still shuts down... Your unit is overheating most likely. When you play high tech games which cause the processor and fans to run harder once it gets to hot. And most times you can hear the fan running loud on your laptop. 1. check the system requirements on the game 2. Are you overclocking your processor, check your bios 3. Lower the graphics settings and features in your game.. see if it shuts down 3.Or while you are running the game do the follow hit ctrl, alt, del buttons at the same time. A task manager box will pop up. Click on the tab Performance.....what is your cpu usage? 100% if so it's running the proccessor hard. Now in the same box click on Processes, then user name, you will then see all processes that are running at that time. If you want to play the game off line...only!!! you can stop some processes from running. On the bottom right hand corner of your screen by the clock you will see icons that load up at startup. Right click the ones not in use, like virus scan, firewall, other background applications that are running by right clicking over the icon and exiting or closing the application. Now keep in mind before you go back on line you should restart your computer so your security software will reload. Other reasons would be internal cleaning, fan, heatsink replacements and so forth. Which may need to be performed by a professional repair shop. Now they do have a laptop colling pad which have worked for some people. Also these laptops can overheat quickly, do not sit them on beds, and your lap when using ventilation is important. And also you might still want to have that ac adapter checked out. If all else fail... restart you computer in safe mode...try running the game..see if it shuts down. Good luck with your games
