Question about Axis Communications AXIS Q7404 VIDEO ENCODER (0291004)

1 Answer

When we connect an Ethernet connection from the switch to the encoder, the net light goes orange. The switch end is green. It seems the encoder is transmitting, but it is not receiving. Is there a setting that we can check?

Network fails through one port going orange

The ASUS site has a quick start guide (I read Version 3) that says the lights show blue for connections and blink blue for activity. Sometimes orange indicates a connection at a lower speed. What happens when you try a spare port? What is connected to the 'orange' port? What do the lights at the other end of the suspect patch cable indicate? Note that the manual isn't great because the titles say Gigabit Ethernet but the text talks about 10/100 but not 1000 megabit ethernet.

This is a layer 2 device and it ain't exactly the cleverest box on the LAN. If you move devices to other ports, it is supposed to figure that out dynamically. You should be able to eliminate devices one at a time to determine which port or device is defective. Start by eliminating the 'orange' device. If the router is disconnected can you still print?

If you have limited functionality with the suspect device disconnected, the problem could be with that device. Sometimes cables can be a problem. Not likely but it is necessary to check by substituting a known good cable on a link. If the problem goes away, it was the cable.

Remember to photograph the initial configuration with your smartphone. That can help you when you forget where you started. Label the wires with masking tape if there are no other labels, so you can find your way back to the starting point.

Emachines Will not detect ethernet cable

With the machine on and the cable connected on both ends (1 to computer and the other end to the Router or Modem that needs to be powered up) look where the cable plugs into your computer. Is there a green or orange light on. There may be two. Normally one that stays on steady is the CONNECT. This one is normally green color LED. When Data is being transmitted a second LED will be flickering showing data transfer. If you have no LED lights showing directly by the Ethernet cable, try another cable. Reminder: also make sure you have power on the router/ cable/dsl modem.
Hope this helps..

I am trying to set up a switch between my PS3 and my PC. I have an external DSL modem. I purchased a 5 port switch(Rosewill RC405-x) but no luck. Can I use an ethernet splitter instead?

You did not explainhaow you connected all your equipment together.
Connect your PC and PS3 into the 5 port switch.
Connect your DSL modem into the 5 port switch, if there is a WAN/internet port on the 5 port switch then connect the DSL model into this port.
You may need to power off the 5 port switch wait a 1 min and power up the 5 port switch again so it can setup an IP address table for the connected ports.
If this still does not work the replace the 5 port switch with a normal 5 port hub.

What does plug a cable into net work adaper mean? what kind and where would I do this .?

"Cable" is an ethernet, well, cable... usually comes with any network hardware you purchase, and is readily available at your local WalMart for just a few bucks. You plug the end that looks like a over sized phone plug (RJ45 "ethernet" rather than RJ11 "dial up/analog") into the port that looks like yet another over sized phone jack. You should see either green or orange lights kick on when a connection is made... to let you know "mission accomplished."

One of the LED is orange instead of green

I also have the DGS-1008D 8-port switch and it connects fine at gigabit speeds between my 5 PC's - I would check the cabling again, as mine was plug and play. As soon as it was hooked up and switched on, I got the green light for the gigabit connection - my 100mb router (also D-Link) connects with an orange light, as it cannot achieve gigabit speed.

Hi there and thanx for the reply.
I have connected PC's with the gigabit cards to the point where the one machine connects at 1Gig. All machines connect at 1 Gig at that specific point. So it is either the cables itself or the connection in the jack itself problem

I get no sync between my network card and the

Make sure your not using a crossover through cable. Also make sure your not connecting the cable into the internet port, which is usually the first or last port.
  • A straight-thru cable has identical ends.
  • A crossover cable has different ends.
  • A straight-thru is used as a patch cord in Ethernet connections.
  • A crossover is used to connect two Ethernet devices without a hub or for connecting two hubs.
  • A crossover has one end with the Orange set of wires switched with the Green set.

Modem and computer are not communicating.

Are all your connections in the appropriate place? Did you press and hold the re-set button on your router for 40 seconds and wait until all the lights are green on your router?

When I connect the ethernet cable to my tower, I gave an orange light. What could be causing this to happen?

What Orange light are you refering to? You have an orange and green LED on the block of the Ethernet connecter, if the cable is plugged into the plug and the other end is terminated into another deive such as a modem, bridge, router or switch the orange light(led) should come on as that indicates a valdi link hence being called the link light, the green light(led) indicates data being received or transmitted. If orange flash with sparks(bad) from the plug it means there is power on the cable..very bad as this could be due to the ethernet card that is faulty or the device on the other end of the cable is faulty.
