you kenmore may be held up in defrost . you ll nead to lokate the timer and first try turnig it with a screw driver. sugjest it may be lokated in behind the covers at the rear of the food compartment .

amana is a totaly diferent unit excepy the 9 year old model . lokate you timer as well but you say the compressor runs. if the copressor runs and there is no cold then the must be eather a leak of refrigerant total loss . or inoficient compressor. eather case the fridge this problem is way to expensive to repair and out of woranty. sorry.

kenmore if the timer wasnt the problem now you look at the temp control . it is the one that actualy has an off position. you can try a hard tap with the handle of a screw driver and see if the compressor starts , if not you have to olm it out and see if it has condinuity in the on posision. hope this helps

SOURCE: the fridge is not defrosting and the fan inside is stoping

One of 3 things cause a ref not to defrost. Defrost timer may not be advancing to the defrost position on the timer...The defrost thermostat, located on the evaporator in the freezer, is measures open bad)...or you have a bad defrost heater. If you have an electronic defrost control, which is used on most Maytag, Jenair, or Amana units, this could be your problem. If you turn the unit off for 24 hours to let it defrost manually then it will last for about 2 weeks before freeze up again.

SOURCE: Motor runs, freezer defrosting and fridge won't cool

If you have frozen coil at the back of the freezer section, then the defrost thermostat is usually failing. Allow the fridge to defrost completely overnight. If the fridge restarts cooling immediately after defrost, then the problem was the defrost system. In that case the fridge will stop cooling again in a couple of days, as soon as the evaporator coils restart freezing and the condenser goes under stress with the whole cooling system loosing efficiency.

Refrigerator stopped cooling. As close as I can tell the fan in the freezer part was frosted up for a length of time and has possibly ruined the fridges cooling fan? Kenmore model 106 freezer on top.

If the fan in the freezer stops, then coll air from freezer will not pass from freezer section to fridge section. In that case, the freezer section will get over frosted but fridge section will not get cold, because cool air will not pass from freezer to fridge. The fan is there for two things, 1) for cooling the heating evaporator coil and 2) For flowing the cool air from freezer to fridge.---------- If the frost is getting collected and fan is getting stuck up in frost, then this is the problem. The defrost cycle is not running, the cooling cycle is running.---------------
This problem is called defrost problem.-------------

So first thing you try is , perform, manual defrost reset procedure.---------

The manual defrost reset procedure is as follows : ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. Then check,if same frost is getting collected, then its defrost problem,. If it's again building up ice that means the unit is not defrosting. It's starting the cooling procedure, and then while defrosting, it's not working. The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Cooling and freezing problem

When the frig stops cooling properly, is it running at all? If the freezer fan is running and it is not cooling, you can rule out the thermostat and the defrost control. It would be a hard starting compressor or condenser fan. If the frig is not running, then it is likely the thermostat or your electronic defrost control. The defrost control is right behind the thermostat in the same housing. When you play with the Tstat, do it carefully as not to jar the defrost control. If the frig comes on, replace the thermostat.
