If using a splitter, remove it.
Plug the phone cord into the "FAX" jack and then into the wall jack
The "TEL" jack is for a telephone (if you wish to have one in that room)..
Please, be certain you have checked that the telephone cord is plugged in and not just plugged in to ANY of the two jacks. One Jack is for your fax machine, the other is to connect you phone to because your "fax" slot should occupying the Fax Slot.
Without a make/model number all I can offer is to say Go to <Menu> or <Settings>
Scroll Through Choices -
Look for Answer Choices.
Decide how many rings before fax begins receiving.
And, of course, make sure it receive automatically.
