We had the same problem. Let it be and now the tv won't turn on. If I understand correctly from what I've read it's the optical block and they seem to be just as much as a new tv.

I have a tv lg ru-60sz30 with yellow spots on the image. I guess it's the optical block

yes the yellow spots mean its a optical block problem. in your case it is the yellow LCD panel inside the optical block. this is not a diy fix you need special tools to realign the panel. sorry for the bad news.

I have a permanent blue light encroaching the picture on the lower left corner of our sony kdf-60xs955 60". Replaced the bulb recently.

The Optical Block is probably the cause of the problem. I am not sure if it is still a Recall issue but due to the cost of the repair, I recommend you call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they can assist
in the cost of repairs and also to help locate a Service Facility to confirm the symptom.
I hope this helps,

Bottom right side of screen (about 4 inches high) has blue tint

I had the same problem with my 4 yr old Sony KDF60WF655 rear projection set, and I was fortunate to buy a 4 year extended warranty - because it was the "Optic Block", ($1300. -not incl labor), that was replaced to fix the problem. That part contains all new LCDs, & multiple Lens & some electronics. I had already got a new bulb (under warranty) a few weeks earlier, that I had not yet installed so the service guy did replace that as well. (This happened 3 weeks before my warranty ended).

He told me that he replaces hundreds of Sony Optic Blocks every year and that many Sony Rear Projection sets have automatic FACTORY extended warranties (up to 10 years), because of some known problems with the blue LCD panels. You might want to contact a SONY office & see if your set is covered.

ALSO - The tech checked my Service Codes & showed me the TV had been running for 10051 hours in about 4 years - on the Original bulb! He was quite surprised because he said the bulbs usually last about 5000 - 7000 hours. He also said it's good to replace them BEFORE they go bad, because they can sometimes burn out the amplifier that powers the bulb, (which is a seperate piece that attaches to the outside of the Optic Block). My TV is like new now.

I had the same problem (although I have the 50 inch version of the TV). It wasn't the bulb. The optical block had to be replaced.

Sony kdf 50we655

heat and dust are two major problems with this type of set. These set can get very dusty inside the optics and cause this type of discoloration .Heat can cause deteriation on optics and or optics cabinet parts .It is possible to clean the optics block for dust issues only but unless you know what your doing and know what areas not to touch inside optics block .Otherwise the block would have to be replaced..
