There is no good answer for this: if you bring it to a shop you'll be told no guarantees, it could break if force it out as well as if you do.

If you are mechanically inclined: go to your printer web site, support section, for a diagram on how to remove the cover. It won't be much easier, to get the cartridge out, but it will allow you room required to get a better grip.

This has happened to me; no one (at home) will admit who did it, but it happened with an HP 4200 series, when they were first sold. All I could do was to grab it with both finger tips, of both hands, lifting and wiggling, while pulling upward. I did get it out, eventually, but it took some doing and 4 years later, its still working like new.

You can gave it a good clean out try.
Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Canon ip1600 ink cartridges are not recognized?

First make sure you are placing the right
color cartridge into the right slot.
Most Printers are touchy about the
installation of ink cartridges. If the
instructions say to press the cartridge
into the slot until you hear a loud click,
that's what they mean. If at first you
don't succeed, remove the cartridge and
reinsert it into the slot again and press
on it hard till it clicks.
Then your printer should work properly.
Hope this is of some help. Bud
