What battery number needed for this watch?

Take your watch to a jeweler who will open it, identify battery type, and perhaps install a replacement.

Believe it or not, Wal-Mart usually has a decent supply of replacement batteries for Timex. Give them a try.

I have a continental 17 jewels watch and it looks

mcdevito75 here, You can try online at Continental watch.com However the numbers on the movement itself count the most, numbers on the watch face and back cover help. HINT!! -- If your Continental Watch has thick hands It"s most likely before 1965, if your watch has thin hands it"s most likely after 1965. Best bet, look for a small watch repair shop in your area, they can guide you too a shop that will know if they don"t. Also, you can check with any Antique shops in your area too.

How to set time and data

Go to the columbia website and contact customer service for a manual. It is also possible that you can simply "google" for a manual or users guide for the model of watch. Similar columbia watch models will probably work the same way. In fact, it's unlikely they make their own, so it is probably a Casio watch or similar. Any jeweller who replaces batteries should also be able to help.

Battery was replaced by a jeweler. Since that

As the jeweller is not a watchmaker, he/she even did not realise the watch is not working properly. It sounds like your watch is having jammed gear train or the jeweller did not know how to reset the watch. Go to this website: www.tissot.ch
If you will not find solution there, you will have to look for watchmakers help.

My big tic display is dim

This sort of watch is usually best taken to bits by a jeweller - they have all the tools to take the backs off etc. without scratches. When lighting effects start to go bad, the battery is usually only to blame if the problem gets steadily worse. otherwise the suspect item is the light itself, probably an LED, or the circuit that is passing power to the light - the controller. It is still almost certainly worth trying to get the battery changed, that will solve most problems with a watch, so maybe you get lucky without spending too much. Hope this helps - please post again if not - also if you need us to find a jeweller near you post with your general area. :)
