Question about Honeywell 3800g Wired Handheld Barcode Scanner

Open Question

Hi, I use a Honeywell 3800g scanner. I have it setup so that it will advance to the next field after a scan. If the next field already contains proper data, like today's date, I have to use the TAB key on the keyboard to advance or skip over the field until I get to the next field where I want to enter data. Is there a way to have a barcode that when scanned, would advance or TAB over without "touching" the data in that field? Regards, Pat Bouchard

SOURCE: {TAB} after I scan barcodes??

I just had to do this today... took me a while, but I figured it out. Download the manual from here:

http://www.modul-bio.com/media/Symbol_LS2208_Manual.pdf

Scan the following barcodes in order and it will add a tab to the end of the barcode you scan.

Scan "Scan Options" Pg 13-6
Scan "<Data><Suffix>" Pg 13-7
Scan "Scan Suffix>" Pg 13-5
Scan "7" Pg Appendix D-3
Scan "0" Pg Appendix D-1
Scan "0" Pg Appendix D-1
Scan "9" Pg Appendix D-4
Scan "Enter" Pg 13-8

You should now have a tab at the end of any barcodes you scan. Hope this helps!

Most barcode scanners will not use a standard mini-din to USB adapter. You need to replace the cable with a USB cable designed for that bar scanner. Here is a Google shopping result for the cable you need. Good luck!

It's a USB scanner. Maybe you accidentally scanned some rogue barcode that changed the default symbology to something that you can't use in Meditech. I would start troubleshooting basically with this. On the PC where it no longer reads into your Meditech software, try to remove and re-insert the USB cable on both ends - scanner and USB port. Next, ensure that the scanner's driver is set to use this HID (human interface device) as a keyboard emulation device. Next, get (or download and print) the manual for the device, because it has barcodes for changing scanning settings, symbologies, etc. Scan the barcode that says "Reset to default settings", then try scanning again. At this point, if you still cannot get a reading in the Meditech software, try to specify the correct symbology for your medication barcodes. If you still have issues, try a different USB port on the same PC. If still issues, try a different PC. If it works on Meditech on another PC, perhaps you need to update your Meditech version on the bad PC to match the version that works. If all else fails, exchange it for another one; perhaps it truly is defective. I hope you can get up and scanning again!

Edit: I just realized this scanner has more cables than just USB. Are you using a wedge? If so, what kind (PS/2, RS232 (serial) interface, etc.)? There is different troubleshooting for PS/2 and RS232.
