Heat build-up divider between freezer and refrigerator is extremely hot at front edge where doors close against

I have the same issue, the middle panel/divider between the freezer door and fridge door is super hot!

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2009

We have no pets. Top and front inside refrigetator got extremely hot after using a refrigerator brush to clean the coils underneath. Cleaned again after reading the suggested solution article posted herein, being careful to make sure the insulation from the back didn't get removed nor moved to around the coils. The top front is just warm now (next day), but it is still quite hot between the doors. Wondering if it is still hot because some of the insulation that came out when cleaning the first time needs to be replaced now.

Had this same problem and turned out that the coils at back of fridge and below doors were covered in dog hair. After vacuuming, area is no longer warm.

Can any1 tell me why the divider between freezer n fridge is getting hot at front on my Samsung rs21dcns, and is it an easy fix? Thanks very much

The warm feeling around the doors is normal... they have either a very small heat element inside there, or the discharge line is routed through there, which is to preventcondensation from forming around the edges of the door. If it has an "energy saver" switch inside near the thermostat, turning this switch to the energy saver position turns off the heaters around the door edges, but may cause condensation to form if the humidity level inside the house is high.

Sounds like the Coils under the refrigerator are extremely dirty and need to be cleaned with a brush in order for the heat to escape at the bottom rather than the door divider. you may need to purchase a refrigerator coil cleaning brush for a few dollars remove the bottom grill, it should unsnap by hand and start scrubbing and vacuuming.

Center support of Side By Side is Hot to the touch

Hi, welcome to Fixya. The heat between the doors is normal and done by design to help prevent moisture along the "breaker strip"/divider. If all else appears fine, temp. Ok, fans running, no significant frost build up on freezer back wall, it's likely nothing to be concerned about. Just be sure the condensor fan isn't jammed and still turning. If not turning it can cause the unit to become extremely hot. The amount of heat can and is determined by several factor's such as, temperature setting - lower/colder the temperature is set the more the run time the hotter the strip. The ambient temperature - hotter the environment the more the unit runs the hotter the strip. The amount of "fresh" content added to the unit - new items add a lot of warmth thus demanding the unit to run more to remove this heat causing the strip to be hotter. Build up of dust & dirt on the condensor coils ( they should be vacuumed annually ) - this also causes the unit to run excessively which in turn makes for more heat on this strip. These are all things which can and do determine the amount of heat between the doors. If it is hot where you live the unit may just be running more to compensate as with other factors I mentioned. Hope this answer's your question and let me know if I can assist you further. Thank's for coming to "fixya" and good luck moving forward. Please take a second to rate the info provided here. Macmarkus :)

Side by side. Front edge of divider between fridg

There is a heater there that reduces condensation. If you have a switch that has energy saver mode, that would turn it off

Panel between fridge and freezer very hot and no sound at all

Hi: Its just a coincidence you noticed it then. It is usually hot. It's the reverse side of the refrigerant (the hot side.) If you lived in a humid area the fridge would sweat. Water would run down between the doors. I live in a dry climate so no worries. Older fridges used an electric heating element to keep them dry. They also had an energy saver switch to turn it off. As Whirlpool uses the hot side of the refrigerant they don't use additional power to run the heater. Actually the heater is called a mullion heater. Nothing is wrong with your fridge. I'll look over my shoulder for angry retailers. Hope this helps, Jeff.

Divider strip between fridge and freezer is hot

First take the grill off at the bottom under the doors look at the grate under the frig That is your condenser it will probably be covered in dust clean it off the see if you can fill air blowing under the frig there is a fan under there that keeps that coil cool and it runs around the door to keep condensation from build around the doors if no air is blowing take the back panel behind the Frig and there should be a fan running if the compressor is running this will also cause the compressor to over heat and will not cool as well but it might just need to be cleaned Good luck
