It is more than likely your top threading, insert a new needle (flat side facing away) because it could have a burr or a slight bend in it. Now totally rethread your machine, with the presser foot up, then pull on the top thread, it should move smoothly, put the presser foot down, pull the thread, it should barely move. This procedure should seat the thread in the tension discs. If, this does not solve your problem, return the machine and get a new one. Good luck.

hi Desiree.
this is all i could find out.
There could be several things that could cause the machine not to pick up the bobbin thread.

  • The upper thread could be tangled.
Remove the thread completely from the machine.
The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool.
Re-thread the machine according to the directions in the manual.
One Point Advice Place a spool of thread on a spool pin.
One Point Advice Upper threading
  • Remove the bobbin and make sure the bobbin is threaded properly in the shuttle race.
Remove any loose threads or lint in the shuttle race.
One Point Advice Installing a bobbin into a bobbin case
  • You could be holding the needle thread too tight.
Hold the thread lightly to keep the end from going down into the shuttle.
  • The needle could be thread incorrectly.
Thread the needle eye from the front to the back.
  • The needle could be bent or improperly inserted.

My bobbin thread keeps getting tangled...the machine is brand new, I've triple-checked the tension, my needle is sharp, and there is no lint. Please help!

hi, well i going to state something silly so please don't have a go because they are excellent sewing machines,. is it tangling under underneath ?? the footer plate ,

Okay main cause that people over look, Thread diameter ???

Have you fed the thread correctly ???

Does the tension actually make the thread harder to pull, this is a very common problem , has the tension dial has become damaged or simply not assembled correctly ???

Brother pe180d thread bunching up underneath

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top and bobbin
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
and that the bobbin is turned the right way
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
if the machine continues to see bunch thread underneath then the
machine may need to be checked to see if some part has become
damaged or out of alignment

My thread keeps getting knotted up underneath. I have followed all the trouble shooting procedures and it still won't work.

Usually it is the top threading, tangled thread or a bent needle that causes that problem. You can call Brother at 1-877-276-8437 and maybe they can suggest something else to try.

My machine keeps bunching underneath why

totally rethread your machine, your top threading is wrong or thread is tangled. Sometimes the needle is bent or has a burr, use a new needle.

My brother LS-1520 sewing machine is having major tension problem

Try some metal bobbins, #15 or SA 156. that seems to help. If, you don't have a manual go to and download one for free

How to thread a brother db2b737 industrial sewing machine

Hi. I just hate it when the thread keeps breaking and I can't figure out why! Brother makes it easy to get replacement manuals for their machines:, then scroll down to Manuals and Documentation.

Besides not having the machine threaded correctly, some other things that can cause the thread to break are:

Upper tension is too tight
Wrong type of needle for the thread you're using (like trying to use metallic thread with a universal needle)
A burr or snag on the needle plate or bobbin hook

Please let me know if this helps, ok?
