Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
The symptom your describing is typical of an automatic defrosting problem. First of all you should never have to move the temp settings. That alone is a sign that something is amiss.

Here are some things you should do:

- Check the back of the freezer compartment for any signs of ice build up. If you note ice build up.... unplug the unit, remove freezer contents and place an external fan directed into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so be ready!) After the 2 hours... place the temp controls on their normal settings and return the unit to normal service by plugging the unit in and re-loading the freezer contents. Now... if there is an automatic defrosting problem the unit will again start to not cool properly after a couple of days and get worse after that. You will need to troubleshoot to find out if you have a defrost control, defrost heater or bi-metal 60 Deg thermostat problem

- Check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is running with the door light switch depressed. If the fan is not running.... make sure the light goes out when the door switch is depressed. Light stays on = bad door switch and loss of power to the evaporator fan.

- Check the chassis around the door gasket mating area. It should be warm but not to the point it feels almost hot. If you note that it is quite warm to the touch there is a problem with the condenser fan or coils. Open the back of the unit by removing the fiberboard rear lower cover. Check the condenser fan and coils for obstructions / lint. Clean as necessary but do NOT use anything sharp. Make sure the condenser fan is running at full speed.

These are the basics. If you need further assistance or have more questions AFTER performing the above please respond here with your model number and questions.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Freezer side of my RS2534WW Samsung is not working, fridge side is fine, evap coil fan is running,,, what could be wrong , it's only 7 years old

Your indications does not make sense! Your unit has ONE compressor that uses ONE evaporator coil to cool both sides. So if the FREEZER side is not cooling the fridge side should not cool either! Are you sure you don't have the freezer and refrigerator sides reversed?

I have an Amana side by side model ARS2664BW. The unit is about 8 years old. The water dispenser on the freezer door quit working and the cooling units inside the freezer and frig are not working proper....

I did a search on Amana.com's knowledge base and didn't find anything useful regarding your two top cooling units not working.

At amana.com, I tried to download the manual, but the service was unavailable until 8/9/2010 after 8:00AM due to system upgrades.

The above is a service locator for your refrigerator. Since their site doesn't seem to have a solution for this, I would call in the pros if you want to have it fixed more quickly than trying to do it yourself.

Refrigerator is not cold

Hi Louis,

This is what has happened. Due to the door being opened for so long moisture which is naturally in the air has collected on your freezer coils. What you need to do is turn the whole thing off for at least 24 hours. Open the doors and put some towels around it to let the frost melt out.
All the air that gets cooled in your unit gets cooled by a fan that pulls air through those coils. Once the frost has melted out of them it should cool just fine.

Freezer works fine, but cooler is not cold. How can I fix it myself? Is it worth it to repair it or get new one? It is 8 years old.

Have you tried cleaning the coils? I also lost cooling on the refrig side and it was fixed by a thorough cleaning of the the whole (in my case) underside of the unit. Your coil may be along the back. That was 8 months ago and it has been fine since. Depending on what needs replacing, it is probably not worth fixing unless you have a super top of the line model.
