Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I bought an Opteka 0.20x AF Fisheye lens for my Sony Dsc-h10. Ordering from amazon (through 47th Street Photo in Brooklyn NY.) The description listed my camera as compatible. I'm curious if i have to take the existing lens apart to put it on, cause the standard telescoping lens doesn't allow for the fisheye to screw in place.

If the specs say they are compatible means this is so ...but in most cases you will need an adapter ring to mount the lens to the camera ..I think this adapter should have been already in the package ..but if it isn' should get to a store that sell these stuff ..and see exactly the one you need..or ..just look around on the specialized forums ...
this is an example for what you need...

It would appear that the moisture seal around the lens, itself, has deteriorated and moisture laden air has entered the lens. It likely will get progressively worse since the lens is exposed regularly to dramatic changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature which causes expansion and contraction of the lens and surrounding materials. I would suggest that you find a competent lens repair shop or ship it back to the manufacturer for refurbishing.

It is possible that you might do a "quick-fix" by placing a tiny bead of silicone around the edge of the lens where it makes contact with the housing. This actually may not help because moisture laden air is already inside the lens and unless you have some way of drying it out, that air is the cause of the moisture ring and eventually full fogging of the lens.

Professional lens repair is likely the only real option you have.

Most likely your fisheye lens attachment is out of alignment. An internal element may have come unscrewed or unglued. The other option (I'm assuming you have already checked this) is that it is incorrectly attached to the camera - check your threads and make sure it wasn't cross threaded and that there are no blockages to the lens attachment being screwed in completely. If the fisheye lens is not in the correct position relative to the CoolPix lens, then the pictures will be blurry.

Opteka 500mm f/8 mirror lens for my DSLR and it's says no lens

You need to turn the mode dial to Manual (M). You won't be able to use the camera's built-in exposure meter at all with this lens. You can take an exposure reading with another lens to use as a starting point, then review the pictures and histograms to fine-tune the exposure.
