Question about Intel BX80623I52400 Core i5-2400 Quad Core 3.1GHz Processor - 4 Threads - Socket LGA1155 - Sandy Bri...

1 Answer

I recently purchased Core i5 2400 processor with Intel DH67CL motherboard and build a brand new system. The chipset has been declared deffective by Intel, should I return the board or keep using that as long I use SATA III ports. Also my system hangup twice during normal operation, I was just browsing around and system went unresponsive. I am using Windows 7, and i run few benchmark software but during those benchmarks the system seems to be okay. I got blue screen when I executed the Windows experience Index assessment for the first time, after that it worked. And I executed it again and again to see if a blue screen comes up agian but it did not. The blue screen said something did not respond in time, I dont remember that now. Yesterday I noticed my system to become unresponsive for few minutes and than it came back without restarting. In this state both keyboard and mouse were not working, and no disk activity as well.

Im wondering if I can put th processor from my 518 in my GX280

With the flood of information you posted I can barely sift through it

Do I assume you are referring to a Dell Inspiron 518 desktop computer's, processor; to go into a Dell Optiplex GX280 desktop computer?

You know Dell is a computer company that was founded on the principle, to give the customer what they wanted; and to be able to choose from several options.

That being stated, in reality I have no idea of what Processor is in YOUR Dell Inspiron 518, or Optiplex GX280.

However, if I am to assume the specs (Specifications), shown in the following link to be true; for Your computer, then the answer is NO,

http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-518/4505-3118_7-33186145.html

States an Intel Quad Core Q6600 processor.
(Operates at a maximum frequency rate {'Speed'} of 2.4GigaHertz.
2.4GHz )

Now let's look at the Dell Optiplex GX280 specifications,

http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-optiplex-gx280/4507-3118_7-30998912.html

Both the Inspiron 518, and the Optiplex GX280 use an LGA 775 processor socket, on the motherboard.

This is good because both the Intel Quad Core Q6600, and the Intel Pentium 4, model 540; use the LGA 775 processor socket,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_T

What is Not good, is the motherboard chipset used on the Optiplex GX280, will Not support a dual core processor; much less a quad core processor.

The motherboard chipset for the Optiplex GX280 is an Intel 915G,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_4.2FPentium_D.2FPentium_EE_chipsets

The Intel 915G chipset supports Single Core processors -> ONLY.
Intel Pentium 4, or Intel Celeron D.

Front Side Bus (FSB) support is either 533MegaHertz, or 800MHz.

The Intel Celeron D is NOT a dual core processor,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Celeron#Prescott-256

"The Intel Celeron D processor works with the Intel 845 and 865 chipset families.

The D suffix actually has no official designation, and does not indicate that these models are dual-core.

It is used simply to distinguish this line of Celeron from the previous, lower performing Northwood and Willamette series, and also from the mobile series, the Celeron M (which also uses 3xx model numbers).
Unlike the Pentium D the Celeron D is NOT a dual core processor."

The Inspiron 518 has an Intel G33 motherboard chipset,

http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-518/4507-3118_7-33186145.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Core_2_chipsets

Scroll down to G33 in the left column.
Read across, and look at the headings above.

Here we see the Intel G33 motherboard chipset, supports dual core, and quad core processors.
Intel Pentium Dual Core, Intel Core 2 Duo, and Intel Core 2 Quad.

Front Side Bus (FSB) support is for processors, that have either an 800MegaHertz FSB, or 1066MHz FSB, or 1333MHz FSB.

Short answer?

If it is a dual core, or quad core Intel processor, the answer is NO.

Do you know how to find out what processor is in the Inspiron 518, and the Optiplex GX280?

1) Are the computers working, and internet ready?

No?

2) Do you know about Anti-Static Procedures, and how to read the sSpec number on the processor?

I had pc intel motherboard 82801 but audio card can not detected

Intel 82801 refers to the Southbridge chip, of the motherboard chipset;
for an Intel 800 series motherboard chipset, for the Intel Pentium 4 series processors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

Notice in the chart under the heading - South bridge;
ICH2, and ICH4 and ICH5 and ICH5R

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Southbridge_8xx_chipsets

Does NOT state anything exact about the motherboard.
For this you need the Model Number.

Granted the Southbridge chip, of the motherboard chipset; is what handles the Slower capabilities of a computer.

Audio is one,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

[Note CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.
Does NOT mean personal Computer.

This technology applies to YOUR motherboard, and not to motherboards that support the Intel Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9, processors ]

However the Southbridge chip handles Audio through the Audio chipset.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device

The device is the Audio chipset.
You didn't state what Windows O/S you are using.

The reason BIOS doesn't detect the Audio chipset, is because the Driver is gone. Audio driver.

(Windblows lost the address to the driver)

IF, I have the model number of the motherboard;
Or,
IF I have the manufacturer name of the computer, and it's model number;
I can look to see if Audio drivers are available, and instruct you how to download, AND install.
I also need the Operating System used.

Windows what?

What processor can i use with 446476-001 system board

The HP 446476-001 laptop motherboard, or also stated as HP motherboard used for the HP Pavilion dv6000 series of Notebook PC's;

A) Has an Intel 965PM motherboard chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Core_2_mobile_chipset

Has a;

B) Socket P processor socket, for Intel processors

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_P

Using this information you know;

1) That the Intel PM965 motherboard chipset supports
Intel Core 2 Duo processors,

with either a 533MegaHertz Front Side Bus, or a 667MHz FSB, or an 800MHz FSB.

[Note*

The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge, and Southbridge chip, for YOUR motherboard technology.

(Does not apply to motherboards that support the Intel Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 processors)

The Northbridge part number is Intel 82965PM.

You won't see this part number on a chipset, because the Northbridge chip is under a small finned heatsink.

The Southbridge chip is an Intel ICH8-M
Part number is 82801HM. This you should see on a chipset ]

2) That the processor socket is a Socket P.

So you need an Intel Core2 Duo processor, with either a 533MHz, or 667MHz, or 800MHz FSB, and fits in a Socket P processor socket.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

(You may, or may not need a BIOS update )

Pciex reporting only 8x speed with two 570 graphics cards installed.

One card should be operating at 8X, and the other at 8X.

That's the way the Intel Core i processor works. There is no Northbridge chipset handling the Processor, Ram Memory, and high-speed graphics. The Intel Core i processor itself handles them.
(Quick-Path Interconnect. QPI)

When two graphics cards are inserted into the two PCI-Express x16 slots, the cards work at an 8X speed each.

Can I upgrade to a Intel Pentium D 945 3.40ghz processor. Intel (Augsburg) 915G Motherboard

No, the Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard will not support dual core processors.

The Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard uses an Intel 915G motherboard chipset,

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/102007/102007sp33.shtml

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4.2FPentium_D.2FPentium_EE_Chipsets

Supports only Single Core processors.

It isn't until the Intel 945G motherboard chipset, that Dual Core processors are supported.

[NOTE*
The Intel Celeron D is a Single Core processor.
The Intel Pentium D is a Dual Core processor,

Intel Celeron D,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron_D#Celeron_D

"The Intel Celeron D processor works with the Intel 845 and 865 chipset families. The D suffix actually has no official designation, and does not indicate that these models are dual-core. What Cpu fit a p5kpl-c and the best to buy.

This is older type of motherboard, made by Asus and supporting Intel Pentium 4, 775pin processor (LGA775). It will support DDR2 to the value of 4GB, it will support 64bit operating system. it have single PATA port, SATA is present but no RAID configuration.

This motherboard requires PCI video card, there is noAGP port and no build in graphics. System is based on Intel G31 Express chipset.

Theoreticaly this motherboard should accept all Intel Pentium for 775 pin processors, albeit early production may need BIOS flush with latest BIOS.

List of processors accepted:

Intel Pentium 4, Intel Pentium D, Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo, Intel Pentium Core 2 Extreme and Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad.

If you need more information or drivers for this particular board, please visit this site adn select exact model:

Can the sSpec number affect the compatibility with my motherboard or not?

I think it should work. Make sure you update your bios. I dont see why it wouldn work. I have an intel 640 processor and I loved it. I recently got a dual core but it should work in any recent(past 3 years) 775 chipset mobo.
