Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hi, My candy washer dryer (alise gow464) takes a lot of persuading to work. When I set the cycle all the lights on the front light up but then it will not start and the lights go out. If I open the door and rearrange the washing a bit, the correct cycle lights will light up and it works but this can often take a few times. This happens whether there is a full load or just a couple of items. If I switch it off at the plug and wait a few minutes it works first time, but the next time I come to use it I have to go through the same procedure. Also, I have set a wool wash before and the wrong cycle has started. Any help would be gratefully received, many thanks.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
JUST in case and no promises- which is why I am posting as 'clarification' and not 'solution', and it's worth doing anyway ;-0)
Sorry but I do not know your particular machine BUT I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many intermittent 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not go to spin or release the door lock if there is water still left inside.
Here are my complete and general pre-typed (!) guidance notes for checking both the drain filter and the drain motor ;-0)
    -------------------------------------
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and most are held in by a round cover/knob.
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.

Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!

At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!
Hope the filter is at least one of the problems and good luck!
    John C

Most of these are a problem with a membrane switch, it's ribbon cable, or the connection it makes at the main circuit board. If you have a rotary switch instead of a membrane switch on your model(you didn't give us the model number) then it can be the switch. but these models have more trouble on the main board, OR the mechanical timer, again depending on your specific model.

I have the Candy Alise washer-dryer, It is 3 years old. The lock door sensor light is not coming on when the door is shut, the door seems to be shutting properly and making the click noise when it closes....

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
There is likely to be a problem with the 'door closed' sensor, unfortunately requiring a service engineer's attention I suggest ;-0(
Good luck,
