hi ripvanblinkl

processors do not give out easily which only means there is a 70% percent chance that this might be caused by a motherboard problem. This happened to myself. It turns on for around half a second and then nothing. I changed motherboards and now I am using the same processor on a new board. You may also want to check if the processor has any burn or overheat marks. Also check if all the pins on the processor are in tact and aligned. If all is good then there is a chance the board is already busted. Hope this helps

Base from the description of your problem and from the information of your computer this is a sign of old hardware like processor that is definitely getting slow since the unit is already old, you might want to replace that But you can also do the following to increase the processor speed.

Firstly disable all the settings in Start up mode.
this can be done by following instructions:
1)Go to “Run”.
2)type “msconfig” in run.
3)Go to Start up.
4)Disable all startup items except Antivirus.

Emachines E4252 shutting down on boot up

This could easily be a power problem. You can check for overheating, but I would recommend not attempting to turn on the computer again, until you test the power supply.

eMachines (and gateway) have a long history of using Bestec Power Supplies (recognizable for their bright yellow warning label). These are highly defective and can result in the frying of your motherboard and/or processor.

I would recommend checking what kind of power supply you have. If it is a Bestec, it is most likely defective (or will become defective soon). Based solely on that, I would replace it. In addition, it may have already damaged your processor (causing it to get too hot easily) or your motherboard. Its rough, but better you fix it now, as opposed to replacing the motherboard or processor, just to have the power supply fry the new one (the Bestec PSUs still look like they function when they have failed, but send completely unreliable volts to your board).

If you need assistance finding new parts, I can direct you to cost effective alternatives.

CPU turns on but turns off within seconds, rarely minutes into self-fix module. Local technician suggested replacing motherboard. Could this be power supply problem or is it the motherboard.

This can actually be a propblem with the power supply , processor or the motherboard already, but to isolate this problem correctly better if you try replacing first the power supply since this problem is usually cause also by a failing power supply...

What is the minimum power supply for mobo:ibm usa p6 2001?will a 250Watts work?

it depends on what peripherals and processor you're using. If you're using an under 100 watt processor, a 250 should work fine if you're only running one HD, one DVD-RW, and a very modest video card.

The fancier your processor is in it's revision line, the more wattage it draws, the more hard disks, cd-rws, pci cards etc you use.

You also may want to consider uptime requirements, and usage percentage. if you're running constant loads, power supplies don't like that, and the capacitors can get burnt up. Servers, video processing, etc will tend to require more than rated supplies just because 100% use of even close to rated wattage (and you will be very close) will tend to cause the maximum design heat to be produces, possibly blowing out capacitors etc in the power supply, causing downtime.

The brand name of the power supply matters too... if you're using a no-name chinese brand, i would be leery about their "rating", as it's probably peak for only a short time rating...

My pc is not turning on Asus p5vd2-mx se

what kind of computer is it? how old is it? have you added, removed or changed hardware recently? have there been any power spikes, outages or surges lately while the computer was running? lastly are the voltage settings 120V/240V on the power supply set correctly? it sounds like the power supply is dead from what i've read but i can't be sure because there are many reasons this could be happening, i.e. the processor gets too hot while the system is trying to start and the computer shuts down to prevent damage to it, also have you tried plugin the system into another wall outlet or socket on your power strip? if no hardware has been add, removed or changed. you can start with a power supply but if after that it still won't power up there's a deeper cause to look for!

hope this helps

Hello

This could be a number of different problems that causes the irregular shut down. It could be the power supply, battery, memory, processor, fan, heat sink, or motherboard. Try these in this order. Check the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. Remove the battery and run on power supply only. Remove the memory, and try running with one chip then the other. If the machine seems hot when shutting down, clean the fan and heat sink, also remove the processor, blow it off with air and seat it back in properly. Check all connections on the motherboard. If at this point the problem sill persists, then it's a significant problem with the motherboard or a motherboard component, and you should take it in for a professional diagnosis.
