HARD DRIVE NOT EXIST ERROR!!!

If you installed Linux successfully on your hard disk then the hard disk is OK.
If you are installing Windows Xp and it does not detect the hard disk but the BIOS detects the hard disk then -
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hi,

If the battery of the HP laptop is not in a good condition, sometimes booting problems might happen. To remove any static charges accumulated in the battery, you would have to remove the battery and press the Power button for about 25-35 seconds. Then reset the battery. Even after this, if your laptop is not booting up then you could perform the battery calibration and press F8 key to boot in safe mode.

My brother laptop Compaq Presario CQ-42 after 3 month used , now appears " Boot Device not found Please install an operating system on your hard disk Hardisk - (3F0) " F2 System...

Fundamentally, it means that the hard drive or hard drive controller has malfunctioned. I'm assuming this is running Vista or Wndows 7 and that the hard drive is indeed a Sata drive?

(If it were running XP, the failure to deterct the hard drive could be caused by there not being a Sata driver installed, however, on Vista or 7, this should not be the case, UNLESS you changed the OS from what was installed originally?)

I would try to prove this by testing the laptop with another working sata hard drive and if that one is recognised in the Bios, then it comes back to your original hard drive being faulty. If this IS the case, then as its 3 months old and still under warranty, I'd take it back without tampering with it any further

Hi mohamed04,

I recommend you to perform an HDD self test so we can understand if you have a faulty HDD or just a Software problem caused by any windows update or virus that might have corrupted your windows boot file.

For performing an HDD self test you should turn on the unit and when HP invent logo appears press " ESC " key, then you will have access to other menu where you should select option " F2 - System Diagnostics" and then " F4 - Hard disk Test" . After process finishes it will provide you a message with " success" or #xx Fail".

You need a new hard drive and install fresh windows operating system. Maybe after that you can try to put your old hard drive to external enclosure hard drive and try to recover your computer will recognize the hard drive. Hope this helps,

HRH

I have a hp pavilion dv5 notebook, my hard disk makes some funny sounds, doesnt boot to windows, i get this message harddisk (3f0). i can recover my files from the disk

Hi

you could try to hit the delete key when starting up the computer i think in there somewhere is an option to check disk to see if there is errors on it as i think it sounds like thats the problem

hopefully you have already saved any photos or files on cd ???

You could also take the hard drive out of the laptop then replace it to see if that helps it has been known to work

and you could try to restore back to factory settings by hitting the F11 key several times which the laptop is starting up if none of these things work then you may have to buy a new hard drive

I found this on another site which may be worth a read

Dv6 Pavillion gives 3F0 error and will not boot up, saying an OS needs to installed on the HHD, but the laptop will not acknowledge that a HDD is installed.

Sounds like you need to start from scratch and format then complete reinstall. You will need to boot from the Windows CD and see if that recognises the HDD. If you have information on that HDD which you need you will have to remove the disk and plug it into another PC as a second hard drive and copy what you need. Cheers from Scott and plz vote
