Web images pixelated

When we upload images to the web, like for example to Google+ Photos (earlier Picasa Web Albums) there is an option which says it would upload at a lower resolution, this is good and compatible for general viewing and thus generally has a lot of pixelation. try uploading with original size and that would have the same quality as the original.

hope this helps

At first pics were good, now they are grainy.

I would check to see if the resolution may have been changed inadevertenly. Grine in most cases result at very low resolution settings.....increase the quality of the image and reshoot to see if this improve the photos...good luck.

The svp hddv-2200 is listed some place on the web as a 12 mega pixel and other places as 5 MP. SVP says that it comes with 5 MP sensor but a 12MP resolution. Is this as marketing gimmick? If not could you...

Usually this is described as the higher figure "by interpolation". Sounds like they average two or three sensor spots in software to interpolate one in between or something like that. Yes, it is a marketing gimmick, but not an out-and-out lie. If you compare like with like (sensor Mps with sensor Mps) you will get a better sense of what the price should be.

Why is there so much grain in my photos as well as being too dark? Is it a manual setting I need to change? I am getting these issues when running the camera on automatic. Thanks!

Unfortunately, it's difficult to answer this without seeing examples and without knowing what kind of photos you're taking.

But the camera shares the same fault which plagues so many other cameras these days which are trying to squeeze far too many megapixels from an undersized sensor: it suffers from horrible image noise at almost all ISO settings and it's dramatically worse above ISO100. Panasonic cameras are excellent but have a long-standing problem of being a bit worse than most other brands in this respect.

All you can do to minimise the effect is to avoid using high ISO's unless absolutely essential and to set the ISO to no higher than 100 instead of leaving it on Auto. Also, set the JPEG recording quality to the finest setting to avoid over-compressing the images. Your camera's design makes the issue worse as the lens zoom internally, so at anything other than wide-angle the modest maximum aperture of f3.3 drops rapidly down to a maximum of f5.9 which severely cuts the amount of light entering the camera and so requires either a slower shutter speed ( = unsharpness due to camera shake) or higher ISO's ( = more image noise).

On some compact digital models, setting the resolution lower to, say, 5MP (still more than enough for almost every purpose) improves matters but it doesn't seem to on the three Panasonic models I own.

The resolution is very dark and not clear

You should first try improving the lighting on your face, and be sure to avoid all light from behind you (close a curtain if necessary). Good lighting improves both color and resolution. The article How To Improve Your Webcam Video Quality provides lots of other free tips.

How long has this camera been out? I'm shopping

The Canon Rebel T2i was announced on Feb 08, 2010 and Canon just started shipping the DSLR. Your salesperson was thus correct.
The DSLR is also known as EOS 550D. It differs from the previously model by:
  • Higher resolution 18MP CMOS with gapless micro lenses
  • ISO 6400 no longer in 'expanded' range (12,800 max remains the same)
  • Redesigned buttons and new movie/live view button
  • Customizable auto ISO ranges
  • Improved 63 zone metering (iFCL)
  • 3:2 format screen with more pixels
  • Improved movie functionality
  • Slightly higher burst shooting rate (though buffer holds fewer shots)
  • HDMI control (CEC)
  • SDHX Compatible

To work around this issue, reduce the bandwidth requirements. To reduce the bandwidth requirements, set the camera to send reduced resolution video. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Close the video call.
    2. Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft LifeCam, and then click Microsoft LifeCam.
    3. Click Open resolution settings.
    4. In the Video Resolution section, select a lower resolution.
    5. Close the Resolution settings window, and then try the video call again.
If you have to make more improvements, go to step 4, and then select a lower setting.

If lowering the resolution doesn’t resolve the problem, try these additional steps:
    • Close other programs that may be using the Internet, such as your browser.
    • Ask your Internet service provider (ISP) how to optimize the performance of the Internet connection.
    • Ask your IM contacts to also try the steps in the previous two bullets.

    Canon 5D resolution question

The 5D has a 12.8 mega pixel sensor.

2 x 4 ft. is 24 x 48 inches, so you have to cover 1152 sq. inches using 12.5 million pixels.

Spreading 12.5 million pixels over 1152 sq. inches means 10,850 pixels per sq. inch. Taking the square root gives you a maximium resolution of 104 pixels per inch (or 'dpi')

Photoshop will allow you to increase the resolution by a process known as 'interpolation' .. increasing to 300 dpi using Photoshop before printing will give a better result.

NB. Depending on your printing process, you may end up dealing with files up to 500Mb in size ....
