Question about Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook

1 Answer

My acer is an aspire 5050. I recently reset it to factory defaults. Ever since then the wireless connection isn't working. It connects then in about 2 minutes id disconnects then reconnects and it keeps cycling. I did a wired connection and it works fine. I checked for updates for the network adapter and it said there weren't any. I fixed the power energry saving thing that many said were the problem but that did not help mine. Before i restored it to factory defaults it worked fine. I've done all the microsoft updates also, but 13 of them failed. I'm not sure if thats cuasing the problem. I also dont know how to get these failed updates to install. Also If any replies can be put in the most simplistic way possible that would be very helpful.

I think that the your router doesn`t assigns an IP address to your computer and that`s why it`s trying to reconnect all the time. Hook up your wired connection, go to Start>Run and enter cmd. Next, type ipconfig/all to the command line. Find the section which is describing your Local Area connection and save the IPv4 Address to a word file or write it down somewhere. It`s usually something like 192.168.Y.X, (Y = 100,0,10,200 ...) ' (X=2-255). Next, we need to find your routers default address which is usually same as you IPv4 one just ending with '1' , '2' , '100' so it would be 192.168.Y.1. I suggest you to check the user manual of your router and find the default address if you haven`t with the previous method. Okay now go to the Wireless adapter`s settings, Control Panel > Network and Sharing > Change adapter settings(on the upper left side), right click on the adapter and select properties. Highlight the Internet Protocol version 4 and click Properties. Enter the following adresses - IP: 192.168.Y.[a random number between 2-255, lets say 49], Subnet mask:, Gateway: [the router`s address] 192.168.Y.1(i`m guessing) and same for the DNS: 192.168.Y.1(guessing again :) ). Apply your settings. If it`s not working, try to reset the router to factory default by pressing a little hidden button on the back of it. Note: If your not using a router just enter the addresses you got when entering the ipconfig/all command i mean for the DNS, Gateway, and Subnet Mask.
Good luck

Just a little edit: After you`re done with everything go to CMD again and enter: ipconfig/flushdns.

Well There must be a switch on it. If You are pretty sure about this that its not there.
Than you can do one thing Look on the keyboard and observe the keys carefully you will find an icon on the keyboard look like an antena symbol look below:964e9d5.jpg
Or Somewhat change on this icon. The default key on most keyboards is F2 or sometimes you need to hold down the Fn Key and they press the F2 Key

I cant remember my interntet security supervisor password.

If you cannot remember the password no matter what. You will have to hold the router reset button in for at least 30 seconds to reset the router back to factory default. This will turn off the security to the wireless portion, allowing you access to the internet. You will then have to open your browsr window, type in and reset your routers wireless security again.

Its not connecting proprely to the internet

You forgot to mentioned the kind of what brand of wireless router you have. first you have to activate or properly setup the wireless router. the factory default ip address is Go to web browser even it will say fail to connect to server. type in to the address bar. the default user id admin and the password is password. wireless basic setup is the first one, next is the wireless setting. Since I have no clue what kind or brand you have there is a setting for b,g,n most likely your laptop is a g signal. if the router is set for n signal your laptop will not connect. make sure to set to b,g,n setting and this will work. your laptop will connect to the internet. oh I forgot to mention to set for wep key or passphrase. then input the to your laptop to connect. I hfope this will help you solve the problem.

Wireless router compatability

I think yo should do this first before replacing:

To reset the router to factory defaults, connect the Ethernet cable to the router and check and set the settings.

This should allow you to get into the routers menu and see status and information to help you.

You also have to be sure whether or not you have 'allow windows to manage my wireless connection' checked or not
(In you Network setting)

Let me know what happens after that & I'll be glad to help
