All SATA drives need a signal cable and a power cable, but usually these cables already exist inside your computer waiting for you to use provided that your motherboard allows for an additional drive.

It will depend on your computer's power supply and how many SATA devices you have currently versus how many SATA power plugs your power supply has.

Most power supplies have enough SATA power cables for adding an additional device.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

Check power connector of hard disc is in correct socket. Check if there is 5V and 12V in power connector.Try to replace SATA cable of your hard drive. If your hard drive is still not appear on your computer try to determine if your motherboard is already installed the sata software of your motherboard.

You need a SATA "data" cable, and you need to connect one of the power-connectors from the power-supply to the power-socket on the disk-drive.

I have an asus motherboard. I bought a 1T sata hard drive. does this motherboard PTN-D support it

Hello
sata is the standard now,so your motherboard should support your drive.

Your part# does not match any asus numbers,im giving you a link to asus.

If this is an older mother board it may not support sata. Also you will see sata connections on the motherboard.

If you do not then its not supported.

How to install a 2nd sata disk drive - do I need a 2nd sata cable?

Yes you need one SATA cable for each SATA device.

Biggest thing is to make sure that your motherboard has enough SATA ports available to accomidate another SATA device

Can I replace drive with a 500gb

Yes. Judging form the picture you bought the drive in the last year. Any SATA drive will work. I suggest tigerdirect.com . If you are doing video editing WDC WD3200BJKT-00F4T0 is a nice 7200 RPM drive. But, if doing HD video editing you should get a esata output card, run an esata cable directly to the external hard drive, and you will get a 3 gig transfer rate, which is quicker than the 400 megs a second firewire.

SATA HDD make SLAVE

IDE Cable with 3 connectors (you have 1 or need to buy 1) :
- blue: conn to motherboard
- black: conn to master HD
- grey: conn to slave HD
Cable (select:) cable will auto detect with most modern HD's from same type (SATA it was i think) and you need to go to you're BIOS, set up cable select for the HD's. Maybe best to set up master first, not both at same time. If you have a SATA and ATA set up the master first, then other. So if SATA is slafe but it in grey connector, otherwise black. For an ATA you might need a converter cable for the power, most motherboards don't have 1.

I've just bought a 500GB hard drive seagate sata-II , and it doesn't come with the installation cables, or screws or even the intructions of how to install it. So I don't really konw what cables or things...

All you need is a SATA cable. Can be bought anywhere PC parts are sold or on eBay. You can use the screws from your old hard drive. The SATA drive will only work if your motherboard is current. Older M/Bs only accept IDE drives.

No but you need to ensure that the drivers for your SATA controller are installed correctly (as they probably are not installed) http://uk.asus.com/products1.aspx?l1=3
