It sounds like you are following directions on how to power cycle your modem and have it reconnect to the DSL service. The was I recommend doing this is powering off the unit (most 2wire modems have a button/switch for power), if not skip the switch and unplug the electrical power from the back of the modem. Wait about 30 seconds and replug it in (and turn on the switch if you turned it off).
You may also be receiving instructions to unplug the phone cord from the modem, I would do this after unplugging power and then plugging it in again prior to plugging it back into power.
Hope this helps!

This should be as easy as pulling the plug from the wall, waiting 30 seconds or so, and then plugging it back in.

If you're attempting to complete a power cycle, you can just remove the power cable that is coming from the wall that plugs into the unit.
Then simply plug it back in after about 10 seconds.

modems can become disconnected from connection hiccups

Internet and modem light won't light up

Try disconnecting the power from the cable modem - wait about 10 seconds then reconnect the power. It may take a few minutes to reconnect depending on your provider but sometimes cable modems get "frozen" and need to be power cycled.

If you are using a motorola surfboard modem make sure that you do not press the button on the top of the modem whn you are reconnecting the power cord because it is designed to turn off the internet connection for security purposes.

Motorola SB5101 Modem disconnects

* If you can connect after disconnecting power and reconnecting, it means there is formation of static charge on modem

* Check whether there is any cordless phone or any other satellite devices next to the modem. If so, move the modem 10 feet away.

* If your modem is placed on carpet, please place it on wooden desk

If this doesnt work, please dont rate me down, if it works, please rate me as fixya!!! lol...

Have a nice day!!!
