If the laser head is defective, how does that get replaced? What is of interest is that we barely used it for a year and since then it just will not accept insertion of a dvd. When you say "clean the laser head with a cotton swab" does that intail unscrewing the unit from ots mount in order to access the the laser head?

  • slibebe Mar 18, 2011

Would you suggest that the cleaning be done by an expert? Is it possible that an ordinary blow Joe like me (with a level of of understanding of what a philips screwdriver is) can work this without messing the integrity of the system?

I have an advent dvd player in my track and within 6 months it just won't work. When we attempt to load a dvd it goes in half way and then stops. How do I get this to work?

I have a advent dvd player in my track and for the last six months it has not worked. The problem is that when you attempt to insert a dvd, it goes in halfway and then stops. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

  • slibebe Mar 18, 2011

Funny though, we have used it on varied dvd's and it has not been a problem. The problem realy is that the dvd simply doesn't get in completely in order to play. Obviously if it is not fully inserted into the machine it will not play.

The advent car dvd player suddenly does not work as well. When you insert the dvd, it only goes in halfway and stops. What is going on and how do I fix it?

  • slibebe Mar 22, 2011

This will mean removing the unit from its mount, is this a task an ordinary blow joe like me can do?

I am not completely an idiot, but I don't wan to damage it more than it is. In fact right now when I turn on the power switch on, it comes on and the screen flickers on.

  • slibebe Mar 22, 2011

Thank you, you make much sense. Will do that.

  • slibebe Mar 22, 2011

Its possible that your device are good, but limited in DVD media playback formats. It depends on the types of DVDs you are trying to play, and their region codes (if they apply).

This model will NOT play: DVD-ROM / DVD audio / DVD+R (unfinalised) / DVD-RW / Blu-Ray (obviously).

This model WILL play: DVD-R (finalised) / DVD-RAM (no finalising required) shop-bought DVD movies / CD-R (for JPEG/MP3/DivX) / DVD-R DL (finalised) / DVD+RW (titled or with a top menu to make them compatible with other players, but again, finalising not required).

Test it, hope helps.

CD only goes half way in and then comes back out, why is this?:
There are two big red labels on top of the unit before you install your
system, you must remove the screws connected to these labels.

Hi.

We are talking about a computer drive here. The problem is either the optical drive or the computer.

To test you can start the computer using a different operative system. Download a CD installed Windows like this:Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD

Start the computer using BART PE. Use an USB external drive for installation if the internal one really does not work

If you can access DVDs using Bart PE, then the internal drive is OK, the problem is usually the installed operative system.

If it happens with all disks, and if it also occurs using an externally loaded OS like bart PE then there is a problem with the drive unit. In that case the drive gets replaced and not repaired. The spare part is different depending on the model.

Regards.

Ginko.

    Hi.

I just gave you an answer. Instead of asking for clarification my answer has been refused and passed to a different expert.

I cannot understand the reason for this, but I am sorry. I am an active electronic technician and I repair stuff like yours.

Goodbye and good luck with the next expert.

If the CD is not being accepted or is playing then in the first place it must be checked if the loading action is complete or if after loading the CD is not detected or scanned. If the CD is not loading this can be a mechanical fault , can be a jamming, failure of drive, gear or belt. Also if there is by any chance any foreign objects or particles that is preventing the CD loading. However if the optical is reading then it is working but if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility that the laser head can be defective.
Now certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it is not read. Hence it will reject. So it is ideal to clean manually the laser head eye using a cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

If this was not used it is possible that dirt has accumulated specially on the optical head. Yes you will need to remove the set then the top panel and get access to the optical unit.
Replacement must be the last option as the cost of replacement must be evaluated.
Hope a cleaning must resolve the issue.

All you need is the expertise to open the set to get access since the laser head is not visible from the tray opening. You need to be careful to remove and open to get access , if not do not take chances but assist with a tech help or friend.

Advent problems

Dear Stephanie,

Check at the rear of your DVD player or in its manual which region is it set to. It has a symbol that resembles a globe with a number inside.

In the U.S., players are set for region 1. Latin America and Australia for region 4. Europe and Middle East for region 2 and so on. Please check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

Maybe you are trying to use a DVD for region 2 (from Europe) in a DVD player in U.S., that only accepts region 1 discs. Please, check the label on your DVD or the back of its box.

Another reason could be that you are trying to play a recorded DVD in a format that is not read by your device, like DVD-R or DVD+R.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Miguel Luiz Martins

I have an advent DV1418A and my built in dvd player wont work when i put a CLEAN WORKING disc in it says loading then it says "no disc" please help!

The READ head is dirty or damaged...very difficult to get to the back of TV to disassemble DVD player.. clean read (light diode) head with light cleaning fulid or don't take apart & use official cleaning DVD disc. Look on web site for CD\dvd cleaning disc.It looks like a CD but has 'fuzz' or a very thin " rug" on 'read' side of disc.

My LG dv490h DVD player has its DVD drawer jammed open. When I press the button to close, it goes 20% of the way in and stops. My one year old pulled the drawer open this morning. Have taken the cover off...

The DVD tray has come off the alignment or settings which make it come OFF the mechanism. So you will need to push back the drawer back to the set position and this might be possible only after the loading mechanism is pulled out. The loading gear would have meshed with the loading drawer at mid way -due to the pull--and so it connecting only half way.
If mechanically minded you can remove the tray mechanism and reset the tray to the gear position in the DVD play/stop position.

Front load DVD player will not accept the disk.

Invest in a new DVD player...it will be much simpler, will cost roughly the same amount AND save you the hassle of finding someone to repair the broken drive gear (cog) on the insertion/eject roller (if all else is known to be working). You will find it on the left side of the DVD bay connected to a tiny white worm gear and even smaller reduction gear. If you are handy with a precision hobby mill, you can easily turn a replacement gear out in relatively short order with only the tedious tasks of disassembly and reassembly of the shaft end to deal with. Be certain to unplug and discharge the capacitors in the machine before messing about the inside of the player (UNplug player and press the I/O, "on button," twice). One sturdy knife blade, one standard philips head and one small philips head screwdriver will be all you need for disassembly. If you are capable of opening the chasis and the DVD housing, you will be capable of removing the speed nut from the shaft of the insertion/eject roller and of deciding from there what you should do. Good luck.

I agree, made the same mistake and settled for the cheaper ADVENT solution even though a friend warned me suggesting one from Invision. Check out: www.invisionindustries.com the SL 7 for my wife’s Ford Edge and the Invision system is worth every penny! Best of luck.

DVD Recorder/Player..Not Reading Dvd's,Takes 1-2 Minutes, Then Nothing

Try cleaning the lenses with a cotton swab and alcohol. Other than that the only option is to replace the optics assembly.

There is no problem loading DVD-R (new or recorded)or loading previous recorded DVD-RW, initializing and re-recording
I have tried several different DVD-RW makes. Puzzling??
